First of all we have to keep it in mind that earth's resources are not infinite. Human beings are guzzling these resources and some day we are going to run out of oil. Its going to happen but its far from now. According to some estimates there's enough oil for the next hundred years or so. The clean energies as we can see are solar, hydraulic etc. Bio fuels can also be used. But all these cleaner energies are in their primitive phases. A lot of research is needed to reach the level where we can get sustainable energy using these sources. I think for the next hundred years we should not expect a zero carbon world.

I don't see this happening. We will not go backward in our standard of living. Technology will always require energy and food production will always have some carbon by products. Fusion reactors will be our best bet to eliminate the largest amount of emmisions. Currentnuclear tech.. could go a long way but there is too much opposition.
