Here's a start. Criticize Bush and nothing will happen to you.
Criticize Hitler and you vanish from the face of the earth.

You may not think that Bush is like Hitler because Hitler used racism - against Jews and non Germans - and perversity as his targets as well as other building up the myth of a super race of Germans but Bush does use hatred and fuels its with a touch of bigotry against the Arabs - Muslims , especially - to get the American people on his side.

Just as Hitler used dirty tricks and a propaganda machine to get elected and to once elected to maintain the support of the German people and to get laws passed that would not have been passed had the people actually thought about it because at first they thought, "This law does not affect me ", and that one maybe it didn't but the next one did. By the people realized that those laws did affect them and could be used against them, it was too late to do anything about them. Bush has done the same thing in America with the Patriot Act and several other laws passed since 9/11 through the of a massive propaganda machine and the American news media repeating the same message. It makes you wonder if Bush and his party don't have control over " the Fourth Estate" as well.

Those under Bush and Hitler violated the rules of the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war.

Furthermore, for the first time that I know of , all three branches of government are under the control of one man and one political party. The same thing happened when Hitler and the Nazis took over Germany.

Finally, just as the Jews and others had to wear armbands to identify themselves - if Bush and the GOP have their way all Americans will have to have a National ID Card for everything they do (travel, banking , school, buying, selling, or anything else they need to or want to do.

First, no, President Bush is not like Hitler.

I was going to take the time to answer this question thoroughly, but realized that doing so could and probably would paint me as one of those who believe such a comparison exists. I do not.

Nevertheless, there have been comparisons laid that would make it seem as though a unique comparison existed. Comparisons between Hitler, as a politician, can be laid against virtually any politician, simply in reference to political art, i.e. diverting attention away from a topic in which the politician is weak or lacks public support to an issue of strength. This is a common political tactic and nothing unique to any two politicians.

The ONLY significant parallel that MIGHT exist is President Bush's unfortunate decision to invade Iraq before Afghanistan was thoroughly defeated and under control. Some historians have compared that decision to Hitler's decision to invade the Soviet Union when Britain was so close to falling. Usually, they say it was a blunder "comparable" in severity to Hitlers foolish decision.

This comparison involves the act, not the character of the two individuals, Bush and Hitler, whose motivation, beliefs, ambitions, ideals, and numerous other qualities are diametrically opposed.

I hope this helps. Once again, I do not subscribe to any claims that President Bush and Hitler have anything in common.

To Availl_Skilz: You make some extremely valid points. I have to consider them. Truly, I would hope we can never seriously compare any American leader to Adolf Hitler, but it would seem that our current president seeks to find loopholes in our Constitution. More to follow.

After that, a lot of things different.
Bush works with the system, Hitler kind of ended the system.

Well one difference is, Hitler served in combat.

Anyway, no Bush is pretty obviously not as extreme as Hitler.

However, with his rash, unnecessary military adventures, his great generosity to the military industrial complex, his partiality to "private enterprise" military solutions (mercenary armies), his constant appeals to nationalism and to fear, his penchant for dropping "subtle hints" about how he'd like to use nuclear weapons in preemptive attacks, his determination to compromise our civil rights for the duration of his supposed emergency, his determination to carefully redefine torture so that he can practice it while claiming to oppose it, his kneejerk disparagement of any criticism of him as being an impediment to the whole cause of the nation?

Yes I do think he has fascist tendencies, and that it's only the checks and balances of our form of government that keeps him from indulging them further.

Nobody in there right mind would equate Bush with Hitler but he has done a lot of really unnecessary damage that could have been avoided by a more intelligent leader.

They both invaded other countries, and they both curtailed some civil liberties in their home country. But one difference is that Bush invaded another country to spread freedom, while Hitler invaded other countries to spread tyranny. So saying Bush is the same as Hitler is saying that freedom is the same as tyranny. And Bush curtailed civil liberties to keep people safe, while Hitler curtailed civil liberties so he could control his citizens.
