There is ice on the planet at this moment i.e. we are in an ice age now. Will it ever happen that quickly as in that movie: NEVER! That was dramatization at its best or worst, whatever. Ice ages and climate in general follow what are call Milankovitch Cycles (real thing) based on the tilt, orbit, and direction of earth. We are supposed to be heading into an ice age now, but climate change seems to be going the other way. To answer your question we will DEFINETLY enter another ice age, but it will never be that sudden (at most over a decade (if the Thermohaline Conveyor belt were to shut down in the North Atlantic Ocean), but most likely it would be about a century and probably not for a bit.

It is not only possible, it is going to happen. The question is a matter of time. The Earth goes through large climate swings from hot to cold.
There was a little ice age in Europe during the Middle Ages. The next ice age will most likely not happen for thousands of years as the planet is in a warm phase. When it happens, it will not be like in the movie. It will be a long, slow process of cooling that will take hundreds of years. Only in movies do climates shift overnight.
National Public Radio did a story about the bad science behind that movie. It is on their website in Real Player format (link below).

that movie wasnt completely accurate though. no storm of any magnitude could create tempuratures that extreme. i mean u had buildings turning into giant ice cubes in seconds. and to be technical we are overdue for an ice age. the ice age wasnt an event that happened one time. there were several. and the earth never turned into another pluto for example. the equator the hottest zone on the planet is ice age free so to speak. also what we call an ice age would better be described as a long winter. we still had the 4 seasons for example. but summer probably felt like spring ;spring felt like winter u know like that.
i think we had to have an eclipse of the sun by the planet jupiter and have 100% of sunlite blocked before the earth could get that cold. man's invention of agriculture and industry has warded off an ice age. science has done proven this

Yes, a couple of different ways. We are only a few nukes away from an ice age, with the twist that the dust that would blot out the sun would also be radioactive and deadly. Or a large body could fall on the planets surface at any time, there are many bodies hurling through space, but most are pulled away from an impact with Earth by the larger planets, such as Jupiter, with its gigantic gravitational pull. Finally Global Warming, YES, it could cause huge fires (making smoke and blotting gout the sun) and changes in the ocean currents which would result in a mini ice age in places like North America and Scadinavian Countries, which are kept warm by ocean currents.
But, no it would not be like in the Movie.

The earth has gone through several ice ages, and will go through others in the future. It's not a question of if, but rather when. We even had what was known as "the little ice age" back in the 1800's. It was so cold, people could walk accross the river Thames in England, and even set up markets and shops on the ice.

Possible to go into another Ice Age? Yes... to assume otherwise would not be logical.
Like the movie? Who knows, Katrina and the psunami a couple years ago showed us the force of nature is stronger than we could possibly fathom. I would put my money on the Earth in the great Man vs Earth death match some believe we are in.

The Earth has had many ice ages in it's history so it could very well happen again, just not as fast as in the movie.

What the movie confirmed replaced right into a attainable effect of a disruption to the North Atlantic glide (the Gulf stream). Theoretically, that is attainable. It replaced into probable exaggerated for effect interior the movie regardless of the incontrovertible fact that. playstation you have misunderstood, as a lot of human beings do, the be conscious "concept". you could no longer say "if that is merely concept ". seem it up in a medical dictionary.

The planet will certainly have another ice age at some time but it will not happen as it did in the film. What happened there is physically impossible.
