Well they spent trillions trying to find intelligent life on earth and finally gave up.
Now they just want to see if there's any kind of life else where. What if they have better video games than us?
Wouldn't we want to know? Wouldn't we want to buy them?

Because that is what scientists do...
They search for the truth...
Science is the empirical (use of clear, tangible proof) study of how the universe operates.
We have gotten so caught up in pseudo-sciencific theories such as 'creationism' that some are forgetting that our society would not be livable for most without the scientific discoveries made since the Renaissance.
By finding life in space, we can continue to lift the veil of ignorance, and understand our universe better...
It is my opinion that our search for life outside the earth is most likely driven (aside from scientific curiousity) by the wish to contact alien civilizaions, (who are almost certainly MUCH more advanced than we are) also to determine whether, and how life (our lives) could be sustained on another planet... Another important lesson we may learn is what NOT to do so that we may survive into the future...
--Thanks for the question...

It is not only NASA but every country with the capability to do searches,One day man`s descendants will leave the Earth to colonise the Solar System, that is our destiny to seek ..Finding other habitable planets is the first step, but why shouldn`t we see what else is out there,if the universe is teeming with life wouldn`t it be nice to be a part of it all? to discover, to interact ?we are just a tiny part of the whole thing,to be recognised by others and be able to learn and advance ourselves is the key to humanity.
We can only see a fraction of the universe and we tend to only see a fraction of our planet, possibly even just a fraction of your country,I find it fascinating that we are probably not alone and look forward to the day that science tells us that they have discovered life outside our own small spot in space.

Why is it that it is impossible to find a Muslim that can't have a single conversation without slanging off the western governments????
ANYWAY, in relation to the question, sooner or later the world is going to be overpopulated to such an extent that human civilisation will at some point have to migrate outwards to the moon and to mars.

I doubt it has much to do with government or democracy. It's just that we're trying to find beings of superior intelligence that we can hopefully use as tools for the betterment of our own planet. Wonderfully self absorbed, we humans.
On a totally irrelevant note, I resent that generalization, HANS LAXMAN RAJ.

don't laugh but that's where all the ultra-rich intend to live, on another planet or the space-station to begin with.
when they've finished trashing & over re-sourcing the hell out of this one.
they really believe their billions will buy them
fresh air, uncontaminated food & clean water.
as long as they take all the other war-mongering lot with them, fine by us.

I wonder how many trillions of dollars have been used in going to space and doing related research; I would also like to know how it has exactly has changed our lives for the better.
