If the earth is really millions of years old, then why isn't it all dust?

It is a scientific fact that all the rocks would be dust by now. Why do you believe evolution just because Satan told you to? If Stan told you to jump off a cliff would you do it?

Er... please dont make christian scientists look stupid... please. But your right. The earth is only about 6000 years old and over 200 different types of evidence debunks the theory that it is any older. Plus there are over 100 fake claims of debunking the 6000 year old theory. Easily put: the earth isnt billions of years old. About 6000 years ago the earth was a better place. There was a layer of water above the earth. Oxygenated water of course. With that the amount of oxygen could have doubled or tripled. Using this we can base every bit of science evolution has and debunk it. In the bible (THE oldest living book we have) it states right in the beggining "and god created the waters "above" and below the earth". Of course at that time the earth was bearly water. Most of the water was unneeded because of the increased oxygen levels. If you ever look up things under increased oxygen they live up to a higher age and grow big. REAL big. A certain fruit plant (im not going to give exact name because i cant remember... but i think it was plum or pear or something) was put into an increased oxygen chamber. normally it produced about 2 plants. In the first week alone it had produced over 20 plants. The normal life expectancy was a few months. this plant lived to be over 15 years and grew into a huge tree and produced over 50,000 fruits. Of course now what about the other years. Well of course if you have actually read the bible people lived to be old... real old... back than. Before noahs flood. 4000 years ago it was reported that there was a flood that destroyed the entire earth. This is tottaly plausible. did you know there are over 50 stories around the world of a giant flood and a family that survived it by building an ark. How can all of those countries, who speak different languages and have never met, have made up this flood legend? duh. and now someone mentioned the "layers of the earth theory". Sorry..that was debunked some time ago. There is no jurrasic, triasic, or any tpye of asic era. At the time of the flood thats when the layerrs of sediments from hills and mountains were eroded. Did you know standing between what is supposed to be millions of years apart layers there are palm trees and skeletons standing straight up. Yep...that tree sure lived a long time. It is standing straight through the periods of time... i wish i had that tree. Also another theory is the "coal theory". Which says that it would need times of high pressure to create oil and coil below the earth. I have a few questions for you. After i say these i am sure your going to feel stupid. What is coal made of: the answer is dead people. What happends when people drown in lots of water: They die. What happends to objects under the crushing force of water and sedimentary pressure? They compact. ....nuff said. The flood created oil below the earth, It created coal and of course created those flood legends. "So where did this water come from that flooded the earth? huh rickey" you might ask me. Well its a fact matter cannot be created or destroyed. The water,of course, came from the layer of water above the earth. After that fell bam, no more increased oxygen, less protection from uv rays, less life expectancy. so pretty much, because all the people sinned and screwed up, now we cant live to be 900 years old anymore...dang. So as you can see the earth is not billions of years old. There is no solid proof anywhere. Also did you know we dont have any parchemnt that dates back over 4000 years (before the flood). Just thought that might help skeptics figure something out. The only parchment we have that is that old is the christian bible baby. Christians-999 Satanists-0 Ohhh one more intresting fact. The big bang never happened either. In order for that small tiny bit of matter to explode all the matter produced would be spining the same way. Our solar system has 3 planets that spin backwards. We also have hundreds of galaxies that spin backwards. Hope this helped christians know what were up against, and how we have proof.

Satan doesn't make me believe evolution exists, cold, hard scientific fact does. If Earth was a waterless planet like Mars, then yeah, we would have a lot more dust than we do. But we have rain. Couple that with the fact that the Earth's crust does change over time, and new surfaces emerge from the ocean floor, that is the reason why there isn't just dust....

First, the Earth is closer to 4.5 billion years old. Second, the Earth will be here for quite some time. We, however, have no such guarantee. To Proud DittoHead, Global Warming does NOT increase the number of hurricanes. Higher sea surface temperatures contribute to higher shear, which prohibits hurricane formation. However, what hurricanes do manage to form will be stronger. So overall, there will be less hurricanes, but those hurricanes will be more likely to be major hurricanes (category 3 or higher). And no one in scientific circles is claiming any form of "incineration" that I am aware of. All they're saying is that if temperatures keep rising at the current rates, then there will be some significant changes. Some areas will have good side effects, but the real issue is the agricultural and island ecologies. For example, the vast majority of our food is grown in the midwest. However, it is predicted that higher global temperatures will lead to drier weather in the midwest, affecting our food supply. Of course, these changes are predicted to happen over the course of decades. Too many people don't understand the difference between meteorology and climatology, and always point to local weather phenomena as "contradiction" to climate change. That's sort of like pointing to a white rock and claiming all rocks are white. ~X~

The Earth is really billions of years old, 4.6 billion years, give or take 50 million years. The reason it isn't all dust is that as layers are deposited on top of other layers, the older layers get compressed into rocks. This process is called lithifacation. In science we talk about theories, not about "scientific fact". Please reserve your questions about "Satan" to the Religion and Mythology Sections, this is the Science Section. Finally, who is Stan and why would he tell me to jump off a cliff? I am not a lemming and so jumping off cliffs is not in my nature.

Satan did not tell me to believe in evolution, logic and reason told me to. Now if you are saying logic and reason are Satan, i guess you have a point. My question to you would be, if you do not believe in Science why, would you say something as silly as it is a scientific fact that all rocks would be dust. That flies in the face of logic. The earths crust is ever changing. It folds into itself (for lack of a better term).

Not to mention, what specifically does evolution have to do with the earth's crust and rocks? Last time i checked rocks were not living creatures.

Please keep an open mind, and understand that our ability to understand the truth about creation/existance is being distorted by something for some reason, and you probably know what that is. Many people have wasted much of their lives pondering these questions, when all that really matters is the fact that we ARE here now. This I do know, if you measure the amount of helium gas in a granite crystal collected from the surface of the earths crust it misrepresents the probable age of this planet, on the other hand if you collect the same type crystal from hundreds of feet below the earths surface, and use the same method to determine the age of the crystal it reveals that the age of the crystal is less than 6,000 years. This can be verified. Hope thats what you needed to hear.

It's BILLIONS of years old and it IS all dust (roughly speaking).

Time, pressure, heat and compaction over billions of years IS what creates rocks.... This is fact. Sandstone used to be sand... Limestone used to by calcareous deposits... Like sabkhas in Saudi Arabia. Limestone is also formed by reefal deposits.

Marble is limestone put under extreme heat and pressure.

Granite is molten rock that has cooled very slowly.

sedimentary rocks are origianlly deposited from other rocks - originally granites and other igneous rocks....

Shales are formed by weathered feldspars from granites.

Don't let those with other agendas bamboozle you with nonsense... Believe in facts and have faith because you have faith... Faith explains the unexplainable... don't let faith explain and contradict reality. but let faith be as it is...

Seriously, the answer is...the rock cycle. Rocks get cycled thourgh from being igneous rocks that are eroded and then are resposited as sedimentary rock that can get buried and then heated up to melt becoming igneous rocks or put under heat and pressure to become metamorphic rocks.
