Sure rap can be fun to listen to (although i think there isnt much talent involved to it) But why does it have to be about Guns,Gangs,Sexual acts,Hate, bad language etc.
Is Rap all about those stuff? there is SOO much negativity in Rap. Its only hurting this world. Its supporting uneccesary violence.
Almost every rap video i see, it has half naked women dancing around or a gang of african americans. The lyrics is the most dissappointing part of Rap. To me, i think rappers these days dont even care what the write about, they just do it for the money and fame.
I just wished Rap never started. This world would be better with out rap and the African American image would be better with out rap.

Whats so good about Rap?

this is for the answer that were left about Rock being about evil and devils etc. First of alll thats not Rock, its more of death metal, but is that hurting this world? no, thats just religious beliefs. Most rock bands today contributes soo much positive things to this world. Alot of Rock bands are trying to save the world such as bands like Green Day and Anti-Flag. They are writing song to stop the war and human violence. In rock today its either about Politics, someone they love, world peace, and having a fun time with out violence. There is no HATRED in rock at all.
And let me make this clear, this is not about how the music sound(which rap sounds really bad in my opinion), its about how the lyrics effect this world and people.

I agree 100% with "m0lekk." Sadly, this question is a perfect example of the fact that most people's opinions of rap music are based on only one dimension of the genre (the mostly negative and stereotypical mainstream rap that's force fed to us on a daily basis) instead of the genre as a whole. I do understand why people come up with that kind of conclusion about rap; that's the only kind of rap a lot of people are exposed to. I'm here to tell you that not all rap music is like what you see on TV or hear on mainstream radio stations. If you were willing to dig a little deeper into the genre, you'd discover that not all rap emphasizes materialism, misogyny or is filled with profanity (i.e. - conscious (as in socially or politically conscious) rap, Christian rap, etc.). As a matter of fact, there are a lot of hip hop artists out there who don't fit the "cookie cutter rapper" mold and talk about subjects other than money, sex, drugs and murder. For example:

- Little Brother
- Jean Grae
- Mos Def
- Talib Kweli
- Common
- De La Soul
- Dead Prez
- The Roots
- Lupe Fiasco
- Five Deez
- Ugly Duckling
- Slum Village...(and plenty more)

And a lot of people have never heard of them.

Unfortunately, you'll rarely (if ever) find any of them in the mainstream media because for the most part, greedy record companies and good ol' Corporate America have conditioned the masses and flooded the market with whatever "trend du jour" makes them the most money (i.e. - negative/stereotypical rap) as opposed to actual talent, variety and substance. That's what the real problem is.

p.s. - And as for your statement referring to satanic rock music as "death metal," it just so happens that death metal (or any kind of "metal" music) is a subgenre of rock music. Remember, every genre of music has subgenres. And is it hurting this world? Well to my knowledge, Satan and satanic worship/practices have never resulted in anything good or positive. And as for them being "just religious beliefs" as if they could do no harm, tell that to the families of people who have been persecuted, tortured and/or killed all around the world because of religious beliefs (i.e. - suicide bombings, executions, "cleansings," etc.). So in short, there's positive and negative rock music out there just as there's positive and negative rap/hip hop. The same goes for all genres of music.

Now Im Black, but I agree that some rap music and rap videos are completely negative and stupid. I don't listen to much of it, not like I used to. What I know is there is some good rap artist, like:

Common
MadVillian
Whole wheat Bread
Gym Class Heroes
Jay-Z
Tupac

and the ones sugrnspyce4 said

These and othere are really great rap artist listen to the lyrics

And about the world being different without rap, just think about without rap there would be tons more drug dealers, thus making our image worse right?(they need a way to make money). and thats were they would go. Now I don't really like rap BUT I'am happy the people who need it have it. Some people(Mostly African-American people) would'nt have anything without rap. So Im happy for them, now I dont need rap, you don't need it, but they do.

It used to be a fun thing during the Run DMC and Beastie Boys days (in the 80s), where people could rap and breakdance, groups of people that would hang out together and laugh at whack lyrics that were still respectful of other people. It used to be a fun thing.

Now its just gotten horrible, no intelligence, idea sharing or physical activity (do Snoop or Eminem dance?) whatsoever - solo rappers who threaten everyone with violence. Basically, the more you can trash talk and dumb everyone down, the more popular you are.

Some rap/hip hop enthusiasts recognize extra approximately song than a few rock enthusiasts. And vice versa. How so much any individual is aware of approximately song is dependent upon the character man or woman, now not the style of song that they concentrate to.

You cant generalise. Just like all pop songs arent about bimbotic girls going out and tryign their best to get laid (try listening to Gwen Stefani), and all metal songs arent about suicidals using gory lyrics to get their non existent point across (Children of Bodom) and indie music isnt about prossies and drug addictions (The View - major breakthrough), all rap isnt just violent nonsense. Will Smith is recognised as one of the only rappers who doesnt use violence, drugs or profanity in his lyrics, and though I dont listen to a lot of RnB, I appreciate kanye west is one of the best musicians of our time, purely because hes made a mark in a genre full of filth, without filth.

Rap is about one thing: ego. Some people are into that, some aren't. If you like rap, listen to it. If you don't, then listen to something else. It's as simple as that. I used to love rap when I was younger, now I don't. And if it's "gangsta rap" that you don't like, try listening to Run DMC or Will Smith. They're more what rap used to be about.

whats so good about rock and metal music its all garbage and all it does is promote evil and devil worshipping.
and your listing to the wrong type of rap, there is some good rap out there that have good lyrics and messages, so don't judge rap if you know nothing about it.

I agree with you. Every other word is f-ck this or that, gangs, drugs, ect. There are some incredible African American musicians..you probably know who they are, and they are not rappers. Rock n' roll, jazz, blues, even hard rock.

I think most of it is bad. But, some of it is good. Like, Linkin Park's rap is awesome! Don't you think? I don't wish rap never existed. I wish bad rap never existed.
