Only listen to fast songs then !!!
There is actually a physical reason for this phenomenon, which I came across some years ago. Wish I could remember where so that I could be more precise. But here goes ...
It's something to do with the release of cortisol and adrenalin, which are both produced by the adrenal glands. Cortisol is a natural anti-depressant (among other things.)
If you're at rest - for example, listening to mellow music - then your body won't be producing either of these natural chemicals. BUT (and here's the important part) if you are undertaking strenuous activity, something that gets your heart racing - for example, listening to (or better still, dancing to) fast music - then the production of cortisol and adrenalin are significantly increased.
So there you have it - slow music brings you down, up-tempo stuff gives you a high. Time to break out the thrash/death metal compilations.....

You think about him, even if he's part of the past. I guess it could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what kind of memories flash as you listen to the songs.
Just don't listen to the songs if you don't like the appearing memories.

sounds like you got the blues. What always works for me is to write a song about it, to get it out of your system.
