I'm old enough (39) to definately remember when MTV played music and good music at that. Of being 39 I can also remember the original VJ's: Martha Quinn, J.J. Jackson, Lena Blackwood, Alan Hunter and Mark Goodman. An old enough to remember seeing Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles beside knowing it was the fist video showed. Now MTV which stands for music television but they now show no music!?!?! Seem like all they shown now are so called reality TV shows.
On a side note the person playing keyborads on VKTRS is Geoff Downes who went on join Asia.

I would say the ending was around 1987 after that teeny bops, grung and massive hip hop killed it. Sure there was Debbie Gibson and new Kids on th Block, but there weren't really ripping anybody off. Britney Spears started out as a Debbie Gibson wannabe and then went for Maddona, and then went insane because she ran out of people to copy. But it didn't happen to just Britney. With 10 years of copying older bands (just look how every rap artist sounds and looks the same), there was nothing fresh to take their place. When the Real World and a few game shows came out, they were hot in the ratings and while the music scene was dying, MTV decided to dump the music scene for original programing.

MTV? Oh, you're talking about eMpTyV. Now I remember, but just barely. It was a really long time ago!
I remember a little better how this other channel called MTV2 got started. MTV2 was going to actually play music videos since MTV was stuck on a constant loop of The Real World, Road Rules, and Punk'd. But then MTV2 had a really great idea and started running shows like Jackass and Cribs.
Oh! But then a really great channel called Fuse came out and it was meant to replace MTV and MTV2. Fuse was going to play actual music videos! ...and then Fuse became lame like MTV and started playing shows too.
Well, there's always VH1 Classic. Of course, they play a bunch of shows too, but at least they're good and MUSIC-RELATED, unlike most of the bull$hit they put on MTV and Fuse now.

Man, you hit home run with the point. Why don't MTV play some more metal and rock, not those desperate electronically mixed madness kind of rock, but good rock. And it's time to shut the **** up for boy bands and pathetic hip-hops on MTV..

they need to get back to the videos! instead of playing them for 5 seconds and cutting them off -- every time I turn on MTV one of the following crap shows is on:
spoiled brats birthday parties
jailbait marriages
Abercrombie and Fitch Survivor
Next sl*t out of the bus
