go to a pet store and ask for Tetra Min I think thats spelled right tell them you have Beta they make food specially made just for Betas put a few flakes/pieces in the food dish according to directions on pkg and thats it but Betas require special drops for thier water for when you clean thier bowls. I actually had Betas live well over a year. Ask at your pet store they will help just one question why would you buy or inherate fish with no food? Just curious. If you care for these fish go to the pet store as soon as possible its not to exspensive to keep them initially it will cost a few maybe 30$ US currency but the supplies will last months. Hope this helps good luck...

Listen,a siamese fighting fish(betta) can starve for a maximum of 2 weeks. But it is unwise to keep it starving for such a long time.I think that u should really feed it some fish food (flake food).OR,u could give it some live blodworms, they love it and it is easily availaible in any pet shop.

Somewhere along the line you'll need to feed your betta. You can buy betta pellets at the store , and dehydrated brine shrimp are also available. ( brine shrimp are little critters that are also known as sea monkeys.)
Bettas don't care much for flake food, but love live brine shrimp... and mosquito larvae, bloodworms.
Whatever you decide to feed them, you may feed the betta daily, or twice daily with smaller portions, skipping one day a week and allow his digestive tract a rest.
Bettas can actually live for quite some time without food, but for a happier fish you will need to feed him what he can eat in 5 -10 minutes every day.
Don't fowl the water with cat food and it will not eat bread.

I wouldnt suggest feeding it anything else then fish flakes if you dont have any left. Actually you could try some cucumber, bit of lettuce or some celery and let him pick away at it.
I can honestly tell you one day without eating wont kill it, they are used to not eating for days by nature. Just get some when you can.

Small bugs, if you have any around the house or outside near your house -flies, nats, mosquitoes, etc.
Or if you have brine shrimp or something, they like that too.
Even tiny peices of raw meat would be good.
The Betta's digestive sytstem is set up for a carnivorous diet, so small meaty foods are better.
Try to get food next time you are out though.

The 4-5 days is okay for a fish not to be fed, but you'll evenually need to get it proper fish food. I give my betta a bit of a cooked pea with the skin removed once a week, and he eats that (adds fiber to the diet). Frozen peas thawed in a cup of boiling water is best, but you can use canned peas if you rinse them first (processed with salt).
They're natural diet is insects, so you might try putting out a piece of fruit to see if you can attract fruit flies, or look in clean standing water for mosquito larvae.

A fish can live a while with food don't you have time to go out and get some Betta food. They have betta flakes or pellets they like both. and its the best thing for them it has all the nutrition they need You can also get frozen brine shrimp or bloodworm's they love also. I wouldn't give them cat food. Good Luck

wait until you get to the store, i agree the fish should be fine for a little while, the bugs or gnats are really good idea, but yes the betta food is a big priority.

You could try a shelled, thawed, frozen pea. As soon as you get the chance though, get it some real fish food! Walmart has food for bettas pretty cheap, you probably could even find a friend who owns bettas to give you some food.
