I mean to do something so they won't be poor anymore, like help them get better jobs, cuz you know... they have kids and kids are cute and they deserve to play with nice toys and eat good food like all the other kids.

I’m not saying that they have to become super rich, and just giving them money is not going to solve anything, I was thinking to help them have a better life, like find a better job or something

Create a better education and social welfare system. Change the tax system, so that they pay lower taxes, and give them assistance to go through school and learn a trade.

Distribute the wealth more evenly. End greed. Communism would do it (not an option most would consider).

There are only so many 'good' jobs. Far fewer than there are people. Even if every person in the country had a doctorate degree, there are only so many jobs that require it, and pay accordingly. You'd have doctors working as cashiers.

Honestly, I think there should be more laws in place that benefit poor people. The minimum wage should be increased. It is going up (at least in some states). This is what I mean about the distribution of wealth and greed. The CEO's of coorporations make millions a year while paying their employees less than what they can live on. I'm not saying that it should be completely equal, just an inch closer.
Employers should provide good benefits for their employees. If coorporations want to hire overseas labor, they should pay decent wages. If they paid the chinese and mexican labor half of what they'd pay in the US they could make a total difference in those country's economies and make a heck of a difference in each employees life. But they pay as little as they can because they can. I think it should be illegal. It is certainly unethical. If the government is going to allow this to happen, the government should provide for all the people it makes poor through the situation.

Affordable health coverage should be available for everyone. Many people each year declare bankruptcy over medical bills. Here's what happens: You don't have insurance, you can't get a doctor to see you. You go to the ER for everything because they can't legally refuse you. Now you're faced with a $700 bill in place of what could have been a $50 bill.

In conclusion, the system needs to change an awful lot before we ever get rid of poor people. That being said, it can never hurt to do what you can. People that can help provide someone's education should. People that can donate to charities should.

The first thing we can do is raise the minimum wage to a point where someone working full-time doesn't have to choose between either paying rent OR buying food.

Unfortunately, the one problem that we can do nothing about is lazyness - some people just refuse to lift a finger for anyone except themselves (and this even includes their own kids...)

Even if you handed someone like that a check for $50000 (which would more than cover their expenses) - they still would whine and complain that they were being treated unfairly...

The other issue is mental illness - many of the "crazy" homeless guys are just that! That sort of medical treatment isn't cheap - or even wanted in some cases.

It's not possible to eliminate a class of people. Poverty is relative. There will always be those with more and there will always be those with less.

Just think about "poor" Americans, for example. Their lives are a walk in the park compared to poor people who are starving in third world countries. I really don't think anyone is truly "poor" in America, but they feel poor in comparison with those who have more than they do.

That is a very nice thought but unfortunately, we can't help those that aren't willing to help themselves.
