It's a popularity question and most of the people voting don't know jack. I mean if you put Ryne Sandberg on this year's ballot, he would probably get picked. It's so stupid anymore. Let's say a no name goes out hits .500, has 30 home runs, and 90 RBIS he is gonna get passed over for sAMMY sOSA ecause nobody knows who he is.

There are wayyyy too many flaws in the system.

In general, fans are most knowledgeable only about players on their own teams. The result of this is that they vote for the people they've heard of.

Ballot-box stuffing is a major problem in certain markets, leading to a misrepresentation of reality for certain players. Look at the way MLB.com markets its online voting system: each team's site has a banner ad with each of its position players (whether they're deserving or not!) "checked" in the ballot. It's practically filling out the ballot for you if you visit your team's website. No objectivity = bad results.

As long as the ASG counts for something, and it shouldn't, we shouldn't leave it up to the fans. At least not solely up to them. There are exceptions, obviously, but most fans are not smart enough to be trusted with this.

Perfect example this year will be when Russell Martin gets snubed. They need to do away with fan voting all together in sports. In the NBA this year Shaq was voted to the first team. Which would prove that most fans are swayed by big names than good players.

Yes i think they should. There are very good players out there that is having a better year then the more popular players. but because of there names fans vote them in.for example Kevin Youklis of the red socks is having a good first half and is not on the ballot

YES!! Those teams with the best attendance stuff the ballot boxes. I think you also make good points. I would add that the players who know the real talent in any given year should choose the all stars!! That would be more fair and accurate.

Chow!!

I admit you have a good point in the stupidness(if that's a word LOL) of the fans sometimes, but it adds a personal element to the fans voting. The all star game is balanced out by coaches so even though i agree with your point its interactive to remove.

I say no, the fans should always be able to vote for the all start game. That being said, they're always very biased, and wrong.

They should do away with fans voting on the starters but,we should be allowed to elect the reserves.
