newyorkgal - and your answer is based upon how much research? yeah, that's what i thought....

i believe in texas the standard job application asks if you have been convicted of any criminal activity, etc, etc, and then gives you ample space on the app to explain. the best way to handle this type of situation is just to be honest. usually you can insert something such as "will explain in personal interview" and that would suffice. i believe that portion of the app states that it won't be used as grounds for ineligibility, so again, don't try to hide anything. the best thing to do in any job interview is to take a negative and turn it in to a positive.....and always address the negative first, then, turn to the positive and discuss more about that....

now, as for your question - how about the temp services? they usually have "day worker" slots - a way to get your foot in the door. if you do a good job, then maybe they'll ask for you specifically the next day. sometimes these sporatic gigs will get you in to the factories, etc. that you never would get in to otherwise.

best of luck to you

If you want a job other than manual labor, you are going to have to get a masters or more in the field of earth sciences and geology and you could get a job scouting out new oil reserves. It would pay alot of money, all jobs besides manual work would pay a lot of money. This is also the kind of thing where you don't want to start out on Yahoo Answers if you're actually serious about this.

These days no one will ignore a criminal past. Anyone applying for a job is subject to a strict background check.
