It's a bit like cigarette addiction - I want to stop but can't. I've reduced the level from porn videos and photos to just stories. But still it haunts me. What can I do?

So simple, and yet so trying. Have you ever heard the phrase "Just Say NO!" This is not a joke. I've been a mental health and addictions professional for 20+ years, now retired, and I've read all the WONDERFUL promises that all these expensive treatment plans and hospital programs put forth, but maybe I read more than they wanted me to. I read the fine print!! And in each and every worthy program, somewhere amidst all their wonderful promises of beating an addiction, whether it be in the middle of their promises or at the end of them, or on a separate page of their fancy brochures, they include the words, "Of course, if the patient chooses not to follow our recommendations (aka: "do what we say", aka: don't repeat the addictive behaviors), we cannot guarantee success in our program." So, what they're saying, bluntly, is, if you don't stop doing what you're addicted to, you'll never get beyond your addiction. Gee, I heard former First Lady Nancy Reagan get laughed and booed off the stage for pithily interpreting all those words into the most efficient treatment plan ever: "Just Say NO!" Now let me tell you that no matter how you deal with your addiction, just like with any addiction, you will NEVER "get over" your addiction. You will have it "under control", and the minute you go back to your addictive behaviors you will be, as they say in the trade, suffering relapse. So YOU decide when you'll undertake a very difficult process of breaking an addiction, no matter which the addiction is: "Just Say NO!" over and over and over and over and over again, and then when you still get "haunted" in the future, you'll be more capable of dealing with it. Oh, and there has been a program called "Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous" established by The Augustine Fellowship. The last address I had for them was P.O. Box 119, New Town Branch, Boston, Massachusetts 02258. That's where I ordered a book from them for my clinical practice. That was back in 1988 so I can't guarantee they're still at that address, but you can try and they may have an address for some porn addiction treatment program. All good programs use the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous as their core program, but they change the words "alcohol" and "drunkenness" to whatever words are appropriate for the specific addiction being addressed. If you seriously want to get rid of your addiction, Just Say NO, repeatedly, forever, and see if you can adapt the 12 Steps of Alcohol Anonymous to your addiction, and live it thoroughly. You will succeed then. God Bless you.

Dude,

Get real. It ain't going away.

For starters don't view anything under 18 or you may have a very short live expectancy.

Start off by cleaning your hard drive of all your ****.

Only give yourself a set time-allocation to play, and then try to reduce that amount of time by finding a more productive activity, like dating a real live woman.

Develop self discipline skills, you are going to need them.

I actually got a lot of help from http://winyouraddiction.wix.com/winyouraddiction. Took 11 years of struggling before I realized I need help, and 3 months with some professionals they provided me and it was gone. Since then I have been donating to them monthly and I know its really worth it, since they go to schools and tell kids about drugs, alcohol, pornography etc.

Find a girlfriend that is willing to experiment different venues of sex with you, and slowly you will be able to wean yourself from porn.

I think porn should be a phase in a guy's life; going through college and a little more. However, after 35, a guy addicted to porn, is annoying and also unbeknownst to him, will be filed under the loser category. Don't give up sex and the interesting aspects of it, but as long as you are into porn you are living it vicariously, which is nowhere close to the real thing.

It is OK to have had a porn phase in your life, now move on, find a healthy and adventureous partner, be happy.

Hope this helps.
