what are these called in english? rice and fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves and steamed.

English name: Glutinous rice
In the north of TW glutinous rice is steamed, in the south is put into the boiling water to cook.
They're different style of outside shape,colour of leaves and taste.So not only steamed but also cook.
There are some pork,dry radish,shirmps,mushroom and vegetable inside. Sweet taste has red bean,green bean etc.

Hi, you're referring to 肉粽 (Rou Zong,) or as the respondent above me wrote, 粽子 (Zong Zi.) These are pyramid-shaped masses of steamed glutinous rice often mixed with pieces of meat, shitake, etc., or purely vegetarian, and wrapped in leaves. Please click on 1st & 2nd link.

And since we're on the subject of Zong Zi, this delicacy is traditionally eaten during the Duanwu Festival (端午節, Duanwu Jie.) To the Western world, this festival is better known as the Dragon Boat Festival, observed on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese Calendar, otherwise known as the "Agricultural Calendar 農曆 (Nonglì)." Please see third link. In this Gregorian year of 2007, this date coincides with June 19, actually two days from now. And yes, this coming Tuesday is a holiday here in Taiwan.

sounds like zhong-zi to me. This time of year its the Dragon Boat festival and its part of the traditions to make zhong-zi.

(interestingly enough its related to a story about a chinese court official who killed himself by flinging himself into a lake to protest the corruption of his government- and the people all decided to keep the fish from eating his body by flinging zhong-zi into the water. Probably the fish were fat that year from all the bodies and rice triangles floating everywhere!)

it is called Glutinous rice dumplings because it made from Glutinous rice and add some meat mushroom egg and many other thing as you like and as you prefer ,and they packed it and it,s look like dumpling.taiwanese they called it'' Bachang''
.it very nice to eat and it will fill you up for your meal.just try it

I am japanese american and even my chinese friends call it sticky rice. It is called Zongzi. Below is the Wikipedia explanation of the dish.
