that is impossible, you get menopause when your old and out of eggs... you stop having your period.... if you've started your period already, you may stop if you are very athletic or anorexic... ask your doctor and they will explain everything. if you haven't started it is ok, girls start at a lot of different ages, but if you don't start by 18 then something isn't right, don't freak out... enjoy being a teenager!

The weight could definitely be a problem, but I am surprised to see so many posters telling her that she could not be pre-menopausal. I am 22 and I am pre-menopausal, and it is confirmed(runs in the family). But for your sake, I hope thats not the case. Do go to the doctor; begin taking some black cohosh and soy for the hot flashes. Change your diet, and exercise. It doesnt have to be anything strenuous. Just a walk 30 mins. a day will help a lot. Try to be more active. And no it is not life threatening... when it does happen, which will hopefully be very far down the road, you will find a lot of information and resources to help you cope with it. Good luck!

Sweetheart. I understand your concerns but i really am HIGHLY doubtful that you are going through menopause. If you were , this isnt life threatening. Ill remind you that thousands of women all around the world go through menopause everyday. They are , however much older.
Now ,in terms of your other symptoms these are most likely due too something playing havoc with your hormones. Its important that you see too this sooner rather than later although ill add that its still not life threatening.
All the doctor will do is ask about your symptoms , and more than likely take some blood. It can easily be sorted with medication.
Good luck & please forget the menopause idea. Its just not posible:).

You are not going through Menopause honey. That won't happen until you are in your 40's. If you are missing your menstrual periods then it could be from a number of things such as if you are dieting, under a lot of stress, pregnant, etc. What you need to do is make an appointment with a gynecologist and have an exam to find out what the problem is. Once a girl starts having periods she should see a gynecologist every year and more often if there are problems such as a vaginal or yeast infection or severe cramping during periods.

Sweetheart - look up what menopause is. It is a stage of life - it is not an illness. Some women find it a big nuisance and have more complications, but I have never heard of any tragedies being associated with menopause. I wish I would hurry up and start...I am 48 and my friends my age are already through it. Maybe I will get into the national enquirer..."WOMAN GIVES BIRTH TO 10 POUND BABY AT AGE 89"
It is possible for you to be going through this stage, but very very unlikely.
If you continue to have symptoms that scare you, go see your doctor for a physical and better information. Love ya!

Star...what crawled up your a.s.s. and died? Gosh you must be a blast to be around!
And SHAY I stand corrected but it's not really menopause but it could be:
Premature ovarian failure (POF):
This condition affects some 250,000 women under the age of 40 in the United States and occurs among one in 10,000 women under the age of 20. Once called "premature menopause," POF can lead to hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. No one knows the cause, but the ovaries stop functioning. POF puts women at risk for osteoporosis and other disorders that typically don't develop until after menopause. Treatment usually involves hormone replacement therapy, which does not present the same health risks among young women that have been found among postmenopausal women (an increased incidence of heart disease, breast cancer and stroke).
More info here:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/premature-ovarian-failure/DS00843
Or it's quite possible that it is:
Secondary "amenorrhea"
which can happen when one is overweight, way too thin, thyroid problems, stopping birth control, failure to ovulate, or even stress. (Hopefully this is what it is!!!)
More information on that here:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/amenorrhea/DS00581
I think that referring to it as premature menopause is kind of wrong though. It's more complicated that that as you can see by reading this.
Interesting...you learn something new every day.
Good luck to you Theresa.
Make sure you get a correct diagnosis now that you know it can be one of three things (read the articles!!!)
So there you go ladies...never say never...something you should all keep in mind as women and if you have daughters!

before jumping to any conclusions....i would first see a gynecologist and consult the problem with them.
menopause is never life threatning. it may be an uncomfortable experience....but not life threatning so dont worry. premature menopase may lead to
it could not be menopause but just a delayed period because of hormonal imbalance which would be my first guess since u are 16.
u could be prenant but....from your question...i dont think so.
the hormonal balance may also have been cause by dysfunctional glands. that could occur due to some underlying cause such as a tumor on the gland. i saw this ones on discovery health....a women didn't have her period for three years...she later found that she had a brain tumor that was putting pressure on her pituitary gland preventing her from producing some enzymes necessary for ovulation.
the imbalance could also be caused due to autoimmune diseases.
the least possible answer may be that your ovaries are shutting off prematurely.....so basically u are having a menopause prematurely. however, this is very - very rare and unlikely.

It's very likely that if you are overweight you could be missing your period because of that. You may even want to go to your doctor (or local health department) to get tested for diabetes. If you are overweight you may be at risk for diabetes.
When I was diagnosed with diabetes it was because I went to the doctor with what I called "early onset of hot flashes." I wasn't worried that I was going through "the change" but I kne hot flashes weren't normal at my age either. (Of course, I was 10 years older than you are now at that point.)
Best choice: go to the doctor and tell them what's worrying you, what's going on, and they'll check you out to make sure you're in tip top shape!
Good luck sweetie! And for Heaven's sake-- don't worry so much! You've got your whole life to worry about things!

Oh doll you do NOT have menopause and you certainly dont die from it. Relax, slow down and educate yourself on something that will begin in your 40's or 50's. Every woman goes through it and there is NOTHING life threatning about it.
If you are having unusal girly symptoms, go talk to your doctor or gyn.
You dont have it and you're not dying.

Are you taking any drugs? Legal or illegal? I know some women that went menopausal very young but they had surgeries that caused this. You might have some some drugs that are causing menopausal symptoms, talk to a doctor.
