No, diapers are not the same. For some reason, different diapers work best for different kids. My kids both wore Pampers. I love them because they seem softer than the other brands and they worked well. Other people have problems with them leaking. So it's really trial & error.

Same with bottles. My kids did well using Avent bottles, but again some people say their kiddos didn't like them.

Congrats on being a father-to-be and good luck!

Personally, I think some of the generic brands are just as good or better than some of the name brands. Target, Walmart, and Sam's Club diapers are what I use. The only difference I can tell is that they don't have the perfume of the other diapers. Actually, I rather prefer the lack of scent. If you have extra cash lying around you can go for the expensive brands, otherwise, buy the store brands and use the money you saved to take your wife out for dinner and coffee. You'll both need a break!!

Bottles are a different story. There is a fairly wide range of bottles with regard to quality, function, and comfort for the baby.
*Liners vs. non-liners. Liners allow you to not scrub bottles. Regular bottles require scrubbing but you don't have to worry about running out of liners. By the way, you don't need to boil bottles and nipples. Dishwashers do a great job or simply scrubbing them with a bottle brush as you would regular dishes.
*Nipples. Some babies prefer the larger nipples while other babies prefer the smaller. There are also different holes in the nipple depending on the age of the baby. Newborns use nipple with one hole, 3-6 months have two holes, and so on.
*Gas reducers. There are some bottles which are shaped so the baby gets less air. Personally I never found it made a difference but some friends swear by them.
*Quantity - If your wife is going to nurse you won't need very many, 4-5 tops. If you are strictly bottle feeding you will want to get more. You don't want to wash continually and they have a tendency to get lost.

Congratulations on being a father, you are already one. And thank you for being so involved in your wife's pregnancy and the life of your baby. You sound like you're a great dad.

they are very different in my opinion. i hate huggies love pampers( the baby dry) and if for some reason i couldn't use those i would use luvs. huggies wouldn't even stay on my son and everything except pampers would leak right out.but everyone is different. i would stick to those 3 brands though most of the store brands will just leak right through and have a hard time staying on. although i had a friend who's kids could only use the cheapest brand (i think it was save allot store brand) anything else would break them out not like a diaper rash but and actual allergic reaction. bottles are really more what the baby likes. my son used the Playtex nursers with the drop in liners but allot of ppl swore by the Dr Brown's bottles

Not all diapers are the same. The one person said that cheap store brands are worth the newspaper they're stuffed with is wrong. With my first child, she had terrible diaper rashes with any kind of diapers, except the Teddy's Choice from No Frills. She was allergic to something in the name brand ones. As for bottles I found them pretty much the same. It's the nipples that made the difference for me. I bought all my second child's bottles at the dollar store and just invested in some good nipples and they worked great. Each child is different and at first it may take a little trial and error to find what works for your baby.

Check out this web site /www.wnetwork.com/tv_shows/shows/The_Shopping_Bags/ and look under product reviews. I really like this show because they use real people to test the products and do tests on the products to show which ones are better. They have tested pretty well everything you'll need for your baby. Congratulations on becoming a daddy and enjoy every minute.

One thing to remember i that every baby is different. What fits one baby great may fit another baby horribly. Generic diapers work great for my nephew and my sister is lucky to save a few bucks. However, my son is more bulky and chunkier thighs. I use Pampers or Luvs only. Generic brands and Huggies just fit poorly on my son. They cause him to leak and suffer from diaper rash. You also may want to look into cloth diapers as an alternative option.

Yes, same with bottles. Each baby responds differently to the nipple and the potential gas bubbles from the tilt of the bottle. That was a guessing game unfortunately. I nursed but also pumped breastmilk. We tried the Evenflo bottles, and my son hated them. We felt the Avent bottles worked for s, but it took some time to get the hang on sucking on that nipple. Good luck!

Not a silly question at all. I am in Australia so don't know all the brands you have where you are but I find Huggies are the best. They hold a heap and don't 'bunch' up when they have one wee in them like the cheap store brands. I thought I would give some cheap ones I hadn't tried yet a go this week and regret it now...after one wee, they hung down around my little girls knees and fell off! Not worth it even though they are cheaper than Huggies are.

Not sure about bottles though sorry...I breastfeed my kids until they are over one when I put them on a cup.

Best of luck.

Great ? for a new dad! The previous posters are right, it varies with each child. With your first you will try different kinds of diapers and then try the cheaper ones and realize these are terrible and go back to what you were using. We swore by Pampers with our first two girls granted this was 5 yrs ago and we used the playtex nursing system. Disposable bottles.....great for a parent just starting out, so convienient. But our latest addition which is now 1 yr old. Would not fit in pampers she was so chubby, they cut into her waist. So I went to Huggies and they worked like a dream for her, they are elastisized all the way around. She was a preemie and had a major gas problem, just miserable. So I ordered some Dr. Brown's bottles. And I will swear by them for collicky, gassy babies...BUT....there are a million pieces to each bottle that have to be washed and sterilized. Not very convienient but we got to go to bed at night. Definitely worth it. You will figure it out. You will listen to everyones advice as I did the first time and try this and that. My advice is when you find it stick with it. If it works for you it is worth its weight in gold. Congratulations and Good Luck!

When I had my first daughter I asked myself this same question so I started testing different brands. What I did was I felt the diaper inside after she urinated. The cheap ones felt really wet when I touched them but when I touched the Pampers brand it felt more dry. Pampers brand has something in them that pulls the wetness away from the baby's skin. I love Pampers brand and have used them for all three of my kids.
As for bottles I love the Playtex brand VentAire. Be careful though when you clean the nipples on them because the nipple brush will go through the hole and make it too big.

I have a 5 week old baby girl. Someone had gotten us Pampers Swaddlers, and another person got us Luvs. To be honest, the Pampers works great, the Luvs we hated. The Luvs leaked and are not as soft as the Pampers. Also the Pampers unscented wipes are good too.

DIAPERS ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT THE SAME. I HAVE TRIED EVERY KIND OF DIAPER OUT THERE, AND TO ME IT'S ALL ABOUT COMFORT. I SEE PARENTS PUT THESE OLD STIFF DIAPERS ON THEIR BABY'S AND WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF, THEY LEAVE THOSE RED MARKS ON THE BABY, I HATE THAT!! THAT'S ABOUT THE SOME AS US PUTTING ON A PAIR OF TIGHT PANTS AND LEAVING THOSE UNCOMFORTABLE, RED, ITCHY MARKS ON YOUR WAISTLINE, WHY PUT A BABY THROUGH THAT?

MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE DIAPER, WAS AND WILL BE AGAIN, PAMPERS SWADDLERS. THEY ARE VERY SOFT AND THAT TAB ISN'T STIFF SO WHEN IT RUBS ACROSS THE BABY'S BELLY ITS NOT GOING TO HURT THEM. THEY ALSO HAVE VERY GOOD ASORBTION.
UNFORTUNATELY THEY ONLY GO UP TO A SIZE 3.( I THINK, CAN'T REMEMBER) BUT AFTER SWADDLERS (THEY GO IN STAGES) THERE ARE PAMPERS CRUISERS, I TRIED THOSE, THEY WERE GOOD, HUGGIES SUPREME ARE GOOD TOO. ALTHOUGH JUST THE REGULAR HUGGIES AND PAMPERS DIAPERS I DON'T LIKE AS WELL AND THEY ARE ALL PRETTY MUCH THE SAME PRICE.

OFF BRANDS ARE NOT WORTH THE TIME, I'VE TRIED EVERY ONE OF THEM OUT THERE AND THEIR ALL THE SAME, THEIR STIFF AND WON'T HOLD PEE.

AS FOR BOTTLES, I ALWAYS GAVE MY DAUGHTER EITHER PLAYTEX NURSIER,(THE ONES WITH THE DISPOSIBLE LINERS) OR DR. BROWNS, FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT THEY DON'T SWALLOW AS MUCH AIR, MAKES THEM LESS GASSY.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
