I used to take Ambien and would sometimes pass out on the couch before I got to bed...one time I ordered some weird herbal pills with my credit card from late night TV... in my sleep! I don't know about long term memory loss but I would recommend you only take Ambien when safely tucked into bed and with your credit cards out of reach!

YES, it can be addicting. Habit forming also. I was taking up to 150 mg a night of this stuff. You need more and more of it as your body will build a tolerance to it. I shouldn't be alive...but somehow I decided to ask for help. I wound up in detox the very next day. I was told that even though Ambien is not specifically a benzo, it acts like one. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T STOP IT COLD TURKEY. You can have seizures and die. I had to be detoxed with Valium because of its longer half life. As far as amnesia, YES, I had that. I had major depression, I was putting my body through withdrawal every day. I was misreable. I didn't care if I lived or died. My metabolism came to a complete standstill. I am so glad that I asked for help. I was abusing Ambien, benzos, anything that would help me sleep. Don't make the same mistake I did, and get to the point I was at. I knew it was dangerous to take such a large amount, but I am an addict, and over a period of 4 years, I went from taking one a couple times a week to taking up to 15 pills a night. I was caught in a vicious downward spiral. Try to see if you can get into a detox/rehab. It was a week out of my life, but the best decision I ever made. I've been drug free now since 12/5/07, and have slept pretty well now w/o any meds. I didn't think it was possible to sleep w/o meds. Good luck to you, and don't let this drug ruin your life like it almost did mine. Send me a message if you want to talk. I've been there....take care.

You should probably not take 2. because of your weird schedule and sleep habits, have you been considered to be an insomniac of a sort? Try taking one, or none at all because you are having side effects of short and long term memory loss. Talk to your doctor about how long the side effects are supposed to last. But try and fall asleep naturally (i.e ween yourself off the Ambien)

Yes. There have been high incidence of memory impairment and sleep eating. There have been cases of people going out and driving after taking Ambien. Check with your doctor. There are other sleeping meds that dont have that affect.

I took it for some time but didn't get addicted to it , I did love it the first time I took it I was tripping out and it was like doing mild acid , the carpet appeared to be moving and I kept catching things out of the corner of my eye but it was actually enjoyable. After I took it for awhile that effect disappeared . I wish I had one of them now though.

I wouldn't think anything can mess with your long term except Alteimers
short term can be affected, but if most of your life your short term is missing, than that would turn into long term, (get it)
I could use something to help me sleep, but now that you tell me this, maybe I won't .
