In the Bible, the story is that Adam was created from the soil of the earth. Eve was then taken from Adam's rib, which is the heart area. This is an analogy that shows the more animalistic nature of the male human, and the more heart centered or spiritual nature of the female human. Not to say that men can't be spiritual and heart driven, but that it is more difficult for them to control the animal drives. When God created humans, they had to exist in an animal world. When a women is pregnant & nursing, the male must be inspired to provide & protect in order for the species to thrive. The animal instinct is strong in men to insure survival of the species in many areas our mating lives. The female animal role is one of nurture and control of the family. Yes I said control. The family works best when the women controls the home, when the male trusts her judgement. That is how the man finds refuge and rest after the hunt. That is the reason for the apple temptation being through Eve. It is not that women are inherently evil or weak minded. The story is about the male desire to give in to his mate, and the woman's desire to feel closeness through "taming the savage beast". The strong being gentle indicates love to women. The story is a warning to both sexes about taking their roles seriously. For men not to be led astray from God's Word by his love for a woman, and for women to be respectful of the man's desire to please them and not ask them to betray God. Of course, that was then; this is now. Young men aren't chasing down animals for dinner with Dad, and young women aren't working the home with Mom. Instead they are going to school learning that they have choices. Sometimes having more choices is harder than not. That is why sports are so popular, especially with men, because it appeals to their animal nature to be physically and mentally superior, when society wants them to be controlled and calm. Women are more verbal so that they can find the way to tame the savage beast and raise the kids the best she can.

"Hope" has the correct answer.
Allow me to elaborate.
Women (whenever you see the terms 'men' or 'women' I, of course, am speaking in generalities) look at a problem and wonder what the results will feel like emotionally.
Men look at a problem and seek a solution through logic.
(Did some ditz say that women were more cerebral than men???)
Neither is better than the other.
This is a confusing statement because how can a rational decision be made emotionally? To answer that question I would have to explain the workings of the female brain. This, of course, is impossible (just kidding).
In fact, I really don't know how my wife does it but given enough time her emotional response to any problem will almost always resemble my logical solution and often will be exactly the same!
Miraculous!

Tuba, I think you are basically right but you are confusing sex and love. Men are more visually oriented sexually but relationship building takes on many more aspects...

... men have emotions and women have intellect too.

I think that the main difference is how we act on our emotions and our intellect. Women tend to be more social and cooperative especially when they are experiencing personal problems or trying to solve an intellectual problem.

Men tend to be more independent and this is both bad and good. Bad in the sense that we men tend to bury our very real emotions and good in the sense that we can get things done. (of course women can too but in a different way)

Men don't like to stop for directions and women tend to go to the bathroom together - these are cliches because they are true and may provide some insight into the question.

As I see it, the main difference is that men and women are wired differently emotionally. Because of this, communication is oftentimes a major issue in male/female relationships. Men are simpler creatures. Sex, Food, Sleep and they are pretty much content. Women aren't sated as easily. For a relationship to be fulfilling for a woman, she needs to feel (among other things) that she is connecting on an emotional level with her bf or husband, to the extent that he cares enough to make an effort to nurture the relationship through meaningful communication. IMO.

Genitalia, followed by secondary sexual characteristics. The mental differences between men and women, although frequently studied and debated, have never been proven to be significant. In fact, many believe that gender (the behavioral, as opposed to physical differences between men and women) is a social construct. This is supported by the fact that gender roles vary between cultures, and some cultures have more than two genders (some have as many as three or four). For more on this topic, see the reference section of the Wikipedia article on gender.

I challenge those that claim that there are significant diffences in brain function to cite credible studies to support their claims.

The concept of thinking and evaluating a situation.

The best kept secret about the difference between men and the women is, men love visually, women love audially. Before you get confused, let me explain;
psychology was my minor and I have done a lot of reading and research on this matter- not that I am an expert or anything, however it is usually a fact that men fall in love and keep loving through their eyes, watching gives them contentment and happiness- assuming they like what they see of course, in the case of women, they need to hear certain things from the men to fall in love. Words are more powerful than visuals for them. A woman can easily reach happiness and contentment by hearing what she needs to hear from the men she loves, while the men reach that level of contentment through watching her.

I know it is an unorthodox way of explaining differences, however according to this theory, men would be classified more superficial, and women more cerebral. What do you think?

The avarege middle aged guy driving his convertible with a date half his age, while going through his mid-life crises, certainly wasn't acting on the audial stimulation that he received.

Think about it.

Other than the obvious physical differences, I think the main differences would be how our brains process information and then how we react.

If you look up the chromosome count, you'll see that males have an extra one. That might explain why they get elected President more often.
