There are so many legends and myths about white lady. I will post excerpts for you and place their links in source list below. You can read each version in their entirety. Each is fascinating.
1. Legend of the White Lady
It is said that every town in Franconia (the northern region of the state of Bavaria in Germany) has a legend of Die Weisse Frau - "The White Lady" - a ghostly figure that walks about at night terrifying people.
2. ( The following 5 stories you will find on the 2nd link)
There are many variations of the story of the "White Lady"
1. This Lady dressed in a beautiful white dress would float around the mining camp and lure the miners into the mine. If they followed the lady, it meant disaster....an explosion or cave in or some other accident.
2. Another story is that she would entice some men to leave the mine and thus avoid a disaster.
3. There is a story that her husband was killed in the mine and his body was never found and she wanders every night in the vicinity of the mine and inside the mine looking for the body of her husband.
4. For many of the miners, particularly the Welsh miners, there was much superstition about women in the coal mines. Any woman who came near the mine was bringing disaster. (This may come from the fact that in the first coal mines in Wales women were used to haul coal in baskets with straps attached around their head out of the low coal mines on hands and knees.)
5. "Latuda is where one modern mining folklore talk began in the late 1960's. Teenagers would come back to the "haunted" mine office at night to tell ghost stories, and possibly catch a glimpse of the White Lady. One lad became agitated enough during the story telling that he acquired a blasting cap and blew part of the building down. This individual was sent to prison for the destruction of private property. Even after the office was blown apart, the most physical evidence of the town gone, the story persists.
3. The Legend of the White Lady
There are actually several "White Ladies" haunting castles in the Czech Republic. That is probably because a "White Lady" is such a handy thing to have around one's castle that as soon as the first one appeared at Pernstejn Castle, nobody else wanted to be without one. It's also a matter of prestige. You know how people are.
4. In the ruined Abbey there is said to be a white lady. There are two theories to who this white lady ghost could have been.

It's part of several Plains Indians tribes cultural mythology. Your best bet is to find such a person and ask them, or to look it up online. It's one of the simplest and most beautiful of the spiritual myths in the world, but there are variations from tribal group to tribal group - so what you'll hear or read won't be the absolute last word.

The show "Supernatural" has an episode about it.
Apparently there are several White Ladies, and each died the same way.
Cheated by their spouses, they went into a homicidal frenzy and killed their own children out of rage. Then they killed themselves out of grief. The sadness they feel is enough to keep them anchored partially to this world, but keeps them confined to the place they died.
Re-uniting their spirits with the spirits of their children puts them to rest, according to the show.
Hope that helps.
