Our gardener does this after he goes someplace. Does it help the engine?

my neighbor does this,and he,s an older person ,he says it lets the heat off the engine a lot faster,i mean he doesn't miss a time either,i used to think he was off his rocker a little but it actually makes sense,but that's the only reason i have ever heard of,and he told me why he did it,other than that i wouldn't know any other reasons for doing it,good luck hope this helps.

the only reason I could think of would be to let it cool down but geez think about it. Engines get superhot (don't have any figures but I know it's over 250°F) and if they run ok every time why would they need to be cooled down specially?
