let the unknown be x( that is number that divided the former two numbers which gave you 8:5)
then you multiply x by 8 and 5
8x-5x=24
3x= 24
x=8
therefore the unknown number is 8. now you multiply 8 with 8 and 5
(8x8)+(5x8)=
64cm+40cm= 104cm

Let's say that the side AB = 8x. Then BC = 5/8 * 8x = 40x/8 = 5x.
8x - 5x = 24
3x = 24
x = 8
8x + 5x = 13x = 13 * 8 = 104

AB/BC=8/5
AB=(8/5)BC
Put the value of AB in AB-BC=24
(8/5)BC-BC=24
(8BC-5BC)/5=24
3BC=24*5
BC=24*5/3
BC=40 cm
AB=(8/5)BC
AB=(8/5)*40
AB=64 cm
AB+BC=64+40 = 104 cm
