All I could add to it is to say that a "dry drunk", is a person who, having put the cork in the bottle, still has all the emotional problems that they had when they were drinking because they haven't yet grasped that what they need to change is themselves.

Putting the bottle down is only the beginning of the journey - if you don't deal with the problems that caused you to drink in the first place (and those problems are invariably emotional/psychological), you will just remain a dry drunk - until you pick the bottle up again, or drive yourself, and everybody around you - crazy!

If you know someone who is going through this themselves, tell them I wish them well.

The psyche of a true drunk without his/her drink is terrible. Absolute terribleness. Torture. It's torture. And so that's why it's hard to kick it. Fine...maybe the torture will fade a little but the torture is actually better than the nothingness if the drunk has no access to love as the drunk heals.

Those traits can differ from one person to another slightly, but the behavior might include: paranoia, denial of difficult interpersonl problems, avoidance of situations that require any desplay of emotion, a difficult childhood, demanding too much of others.
