I recently purchased an 88 Deville which was driven very little if at all for the 4 years prior to it coming home with me. It has 164K miles.

Electrical prolems are the radio antenna doesn't go down (in perpetual "up" position). The horn doesn't work. The glove-box trunk lock release button didn't work, but miraculously does now. (???)

The biggie is the Air Conditioning, which worked just fine when I got the car, blowing out nice cold air and keeping the car to the desired temp.. I turned it on and used it several times in the first few days, then the service AC light came on. It will operate on ECON, but blows out air that is only slightly cool. If AUTO is pressed, the digital display flashed "AUTO" then immediately goes back to "ECON" display characters. The temp. characters still change. The service AC light comes on immediately when the auto button is pressed, then the light goes out after a few minutes.

Do I have a basket case, or are these problems interrelated? Help?

My husband checked the fault codes and they are E30, E52, F11, and F47.

Radio issues also. The radio won't hold preset stations, and when the car is turned off, loses the clock memory (so when it's turned on again, the time starts at 00:00).

Antenna problem is either bad antenna drive cable or motor or motor relay---does the motor hum or make noise when trying to put the antenna down? If it sounds like it's running, then the drive cable for the antenna mast is stripped and needs to be replaced--if no sound, then the motor or relay is bad. Aftermarket power antenna's at parts stores are like 20.00-30.00 complete.
Horn problem could be bad horn, bad ground, loose wires or bad contact, relay or horn contacts in steering wheel...check for power at the horn when the horn buttons are depressed---if power is at the horn wire, then the horn is bad---if not, check the relay or horn contacts in the steering wheel.
AC system you have with the auto temp feature are a royal nightmare to figure out and expensive....try to find a shop that is familiar with the system if you can---not many tech's know them that well and wind up replacing parts till kingdom come. Main components like the programmer and controller are hideously expensive and not easy to diagnose.
Could just be low on freon and have a small leak--R12 system and maybe should upgrade to R134 unless it has been already. Have them evac the system and run a vacuum test on it for an hour or so to test for leaks. If leaking, do a dye test or sniffer on the system. Pressure switch may be turning off the system if freon is low and causing it to default to Economy setting.

A blown head gasket or cracked block, but likely it is a blown head gasket. This can be a major repair depending on the car. The sooner you get it fixed the better. If you bought the car "as is" I doubt there is anything you can do to get the dealer/person to pay for the repair, but some states do have some laws that might help. I'm not an expert so hopefully someone will reply regarding what laws might be helpful, but they will likely need to know what state you bought the car in.

my mom's 94 deville's AC quit too. And we have come to find out that this is a common problem with them.

My dad tried and tried to work on it, he even took it to a specialist, neither of them could really find anything with a problem. It was getting power everywhere but the compressor.

He went O'Rielly's and they said they have seen several this year with the same problem.

They told dad how to "hot wire" it to get it to kick on. but the problem is it will freeze up if let on long. He took it to a Caddy dealer and they were unsure of the problem as well.

So we are going to have to make an appointment at the dealership and see if they can find the problem.

If you want I can email you when we find out the real deal ...and maybe pass some info your way.

Good luck!
