You don't. If you're going to be carded, you can use a state ID card rather than a driver's license.
Also, I've never needed a DL to buy alcohol; never been carded once at the liquor store. If I'd have known that at the time, I may not have bothered waiting for 21.

It's called photo identification, which is a must have to prove that you're of legal age to buy this. Of course, this doesn't have to be a driver's license. It can be something like a passport, for example, or in my case, a liquor license. But it has to be a piece of photo ID, trust me on this.

for your particulars, you age especially, its not necessarily drivers license, you can use your id too
