It has been said alot, and I think it will never be broken just because players are trying to make their careers longer. With 2,632 striaght games Cal Ripken's record. I will say there is only one other person close to that and he happens to be also an Oriole, Miguel Tejada, but he is only at about 1300 games or so. He still has a long way to go. With only playing 162 games add an extra 15 games for playoffs (if Baltimore makes it there) He will need close to 9 years to reach that goal.

(1) Johnny Vander Meer pitched two consecutive no-hitters. Pitching three consecutive no-hitters will be awfully hard to accomplish.
(2) Walter Johnson with 110 shutouts. The way starting pitchers are pulled off the mound today getting that many complete games will be hard much less 110 shutouts.
(3) Ty Cobb's .366 lifetime batting average is safe.
(4) Cy Young's 511 wins will last.

(1) Cy Young 511 wins
(2) Cy Young 316 losses
(3) Bobby Cox (pending) most games thrown out of by umps
Many have the 511 Cy Young right. But, think about the other two.
Will anyone EVER be allowed to pitch enough games that they will lose 316 again?
Will anyone EVER get to manage so long at a high enough level that he won't get fired and his temper won't get throttled by team management?

Nolan Ryan's strikeout record of 5714. For the same reason no one will win 511 or 59 in a single year! Think about 300 K's for 19 years! that is ridiculous

Cy Young's all-time wins record, 511 games. Pitchers are considered remarkable for winning 300 career games. There's a good chance that 400 will never happen again. Pitchers pitched on much less rest back then and stayed in games longer too, there weren't bullpens as we know them today. Other records might seem tough to break because of how impressive they are, but this one is virtually unbreakable due to changing circumstances in the game.

Cy Young's career Wins record: 511 games
HE WON 511 GAMES IN HIS CAREER
I would say Ripkens streak but some major league players are already on their way to that mark (Miguel Tejada is already in the thousands)

Young's 749 complete games. Under current gameplay conditions, this would require a career of about 50 years, maintaining league-leading performance the entire time.
Unless gene therapy has longevity benefits as yet undreamed of, this one is the "most impossible" to break.
A lot of people focus on Young's wins, which is a similarly imposing mark to envision approaching, and I recognize that wins are sexier and the media drools over them a lot more, but his CG record stands by itself.
