Thank you!
because its a sign of your gratefulness for someone.
and then with a genuine thank you, you suddenly give the most importance to the one you are thanking. and a genuine thank you comes with a smile from both sides, and a smile is a wonderful gesture.

There is a fundamental difference in using these words in a day to day affair.
Please is generally used BEFORE a certain action ( Please help me , please do this) and Thanks is used after a certain action( Thanks for helping out)
Depending upon the personality of the person one becomes more important than the other. For example, I am a person who have been at the receiving end of many a help and I am not ashamed or hesitant to ask for help from any one. So , for me Thanking someone for their help is more important .
For many others Please will mean a sort of humility and for them Thanks is already embedded in the Please word.

I would say "Thank you"
You usually have to say it more often and it has more meaning.
They can both be used in a sarcastic way, but please just doesn't have as much meaning.
They are both important though.

I like them both, and think both are appropriate. But if I had to choose it would be Thank you!

Thanks.
Having to beg for something is bad, showing appreciation isn't. They know you want it if you ask. It's very degrading to call that 'manners' and scold people for not following to it.

thank you, the please can be implied in your tone. it's just common manners to say thank you because it's like, i know that you did something for me and i am grateful. thank you is way more important.
unless you're dealing with my brother. in that case, you must say please or he won't do whatever you were asking him to do.

It has to be Thanks, but not only the word you should actually appreciate or just otherwise don't say it if it's only a sound coming out of your mouth....:0

Thank you and probably "sorry" come first. They clear your conscience and promote general positive action.

Thanks...It's very rarely considered impolite to not say please in contrast to how often you hear people say "He didn't even say thank you."

This is an easy one for me... Because I always say Thanks instead of your welcome. I guess I just feel Thank you has more meaning then your welcome at least to me it does.
