Has the hand of just been to lenient on our celebrities so that know when the heavy hand of justice has come down, people are out raged. Example if it would have been you or me instead of Ms. Hilton no questions we would be in jail. And not just her but many, many others sex, drugs, etc. So my questions
1) Has the system been to easy for Clebs.?
2) Why are people outraged to have a drunk driver off the streets and in jail?
3) Why do you think movie stars get special treatment?
4) How can we change the system?
5) What would you do different?

1. yes it has been too easy on celebs
2. it makes no sense to me. You hear all about organizations like MADD and then people cry because a drunk driver is put in jail. I say more people should be thanking that judge.
3. I think they get special treatment because they are famous and there are a lot of people who like them and I mean look at how much this Hilton judge is taking for putting a drunk driver in jail.
4. We will never change the system. Everyone know money talks most all the time.
5. I would treat everyone equal. What is good for one is good for all.

1) In some cases, perhaps so. In the past, definitely so. I think things have changed a bit in the last few years. More celebrities have been given jail time than I ever recall before. The studio system was great for covering up bad publicity. Paris Hilton is causing a lot of outcry because it doesn't really matter which way the case went, somebody was going to be upset about it. That's her publicity machine in action. Others have done the jail time. Two different cast members from Lost did jail time. Bobby Brown has done jail time. Sean Penn has done jail time. Naomi Campbell has had more than one court appearance with heavy sanctions. Courts have ordered people into rehab (not just celebrities). More are facing extreme legal complications from drugs to murder. I think the judicial system is trying to be fair to celebrities and the general public as well. Paris was sent home with home detention by the sheriff, not the judge or court. It was the judicial system who ordered her back to jail. The law is that she will get time off for time served, which by all accounts is being applied equally. The real beef people should be having is with the law enforcement system, not the courts. The people who compare her status with situations of people they know need to remember that laws vary from state to state. What gets 90 days in one state may only get 45 in another. It's impossible to compare apples and oranges.

2) Paris has her fans and her publicity staff. They are the ones responsible for the public outcry about her status. However, she isn't in jail for drunk driving. She is in jail for driving while her license was suspended (due to a DUI). If we're going to be outraged, we need to be outraged about the right thing.

3) If celebrities get special treatment, I think it's because the legal system in general is caught between a rock and a hard place in to how these persons are treated. Too lenient begets an outcry. Too stern begets an outcry.

4) If the system needs changing, it needs to be done through the enactment of laws that address the specifics. Everything else is subject to interpretation.

5) I don't know what I would do differently. I've never been in that situation.

Yup. My cousin got 8 months for driving while suspended, not 40 some days. He served six when the sentence was reviewed as being excessive. He was just 19, not 26 or so and was only a bridge painter, not a wealthy, mucky party girl. When the cop who arrested him heard, he said that if he had known he would have just taken the keys from him.

The only reason why it looks like they are more lenient is because they can buy their way out of punishment. If we all had as much money as these celebs we would be able to get out of it too.
