Armatures do go bad.

Depending on the engine Make and model they vary from $34 to $70.

You will need the numbers off the engine blower howsing.
Model.
Code.
Serial number.

Oh, all the replacement armatures are IC. Not points and condesor any more and are simply replaced.

rust wont really hurt one,and it wont keep it from firing, but it may get a weak fire to it,id at least clean it off real good,if this is an older mower it may have points in it,most made in the past ten years don't have but some are still around that do,and that will make it not start,a bad coil will also do this, good luck with it.
