As has been stated, sand is NOT a good substrate. They can ingest it and become impacted.

Secondly....if you put real plants in a Bearded enclosure, chances are they will either eat them (so they must be non toxic if you do try it) or climb on them, trample them, and kill them.

I do have some faux cacti in a coupleo f my Beardie enclosures, if they were real, they would have been destoyed long ago. : )

To make an "attractive" Beardie enclosure, you are better off with different kinds of rock formations and things to climb on, they will enjoy them much more, and not destroy them in the process.

And to the poster who stated Beardies like lettuce......lettuce is the WORST thing you could ever feed a Beardie. It has basically no nutritional value, and can actually cause diarheah and illness.

Go to www.reptilerooms.com and read the bearded dragon forum. It has excellent care sheets regarding caging, heat, light, diet, etc. Sand is not recommended.

Iceberg lettuce is terrible for them, but we do feed ours a "spring mix" with dark, leafy greens. That is healthy for them, just don't over do it. I wouldn't recommend putting any plants or sand in the cage for the reasons stated above. In our cage we have just a bunch of wooden "tree" looking things to crawl on and a reptile hammock.

Okay first of all, sand isn't a good idea for any lizard. They eat and kill themselves. Second, bearded lizards like lettuce. Just regular lettuce is fine as long as it is chopped up so the lizard doesn't choke. I also recommend a lizard food called Bearded Bites. I'm sure you can find it at a PetCo
