It sounds like a Goliath moth ~ best thing to do is turn it loose.

I admire you so much for this - if what you've said is true, then obviously life is very hard for you, I'm glad that your heart is big enough to welcome so many orphans and lost critters into your home. If you're doing what is best for the puppy - and by the sound of it, you definitely are - then of course it is alright. Just make sure to look after it, and no one can protest. Best of luck with everything

I don't know what kind it is, but you can feed him by dissolving sugar in water and putting it in a teaspoon in the container you have it in. Watch and see if it extends it's proboscis and drinks.
Butterflies don't live long so don't be surprised if he just withers away. They really just live long enough to mate and lay eggs which of course turns into a Caterpillar.

If he's a cecropia, they only live 24 hours. I found a dying one, once, and sold it for $75.00 He was very valuable to a collector, and I knew he was in the last hours of his life. If it were any other I would never have taken it.

Dude its prolly a moth and it will only live for a day cuz it dont got a mouth so it starves and dies after 24 hours let it be free at the end of its life please.

The best thing you can do to keep him alive is take him to a nice garden and let him go. His life is short and captivity isn't very pleasant for any wild animals.

Let the poor thing go. It needs to mate to keep its species going. Don't be part of the cause that makes it extinct.

He is probably a moth, and you could best take care of him by letting him go.

As intriguing as butterflies may be, your home is no place for it. Set him free and he will feed and care for himself.
