It probably depends on how long you had the policy, and, of course, if the premiums had been paid. Most policies won't pay out for suicide if the suicide happens within the first few years of the policy being taken out. After that, the company will take it as a given that the policy was not taken in consideration of the suicide. The same reasoning may apply in the case of a death sentence. However, it is unlikely that a policy would even have language considering a death sentence, so there may be even less of a problem.

good question. Probably depends on the policy. Death sentences are still listed as homicide as cause of death on death certificate. My guess is, among all the legalese in the policy, it says they won't pay if you are given a death sentence, much like if you commit suicide.
Although anything could be possible, I'm sure they would fight the benefactor or cancel the policy upon conviction. Most policies allow cancellation with return of premiums.
