Foals at NW1, part of Camden Crawl... infamous.

I've always held the idea that a show can be great for a number of reasons, or likewise bad, and it's so often down to the preconceived mind. We can go to a gig with a band we like and obviously enjoy it, because we're familiar with the sound, the songs etc, but what really makes a good gig for me is when I'm surprised. In a way I even like it when I see a band I love give a bad performance when I know they can do so much better, it's exciting and puts perspective on their shows.

When I saw Foals play London I had only heard one song a few times and it was sheer accident I was there at the show, and when I left I was shaking with nerves, bewildered if you like. I had to sit down I was so amazed by the power, energy and passion of the band and their incredible music. I love that live music can make me so physically altered and so although so many bands put on great shows, the greatest are the ones that can have that control over you, the ones that demand remembrance and the ones which leave you on the floor whispering 'wow' into your empty beer cup.

Three come to mind:

Kiss 1983: Creatures of The Night....Gene meant it when he said KISS goes all out for the fans who spend the $$$ to see the ultimate rock show. The fans truly ARE the bosses. And I got more than my $$$ worth!!! My only regret: I couldn't travel to New Orleans to see their last show in makeup/costume....I bet THAT one show was historic.

Van Halen: 5150 Tour featuring new member Sammy Hagar: I was on vacation in South Mississippi when I got this off-wall chance to land a ticket in my hand to go see them. A lot of emotion from the fans seen as those embraced Hagar and others missed Dave. Hagar and Eddie both were AMAZING.

The Rolling Stones Steel Wheels Tour: Savvy marketing billed it as a 'farewell' tour; a swan song for a legendary band. Seemed it took FOREVER to get to the stadium. Souvenir prices were stratospheric!! Awesome HUGE behemoth stage--adorned on either side with REAL FM radio station broadcast antennas that ran air signal lights!! Money (and a LOT of it) well spent: Living Colour opened for Mick and The Boys.....and were equally good.

I got to see The Rolling Stones preform!!! I was content.

That was my last rock concert. A new emerging rock music from from Seattle called "grunge" (later evolving into alternative) was fast on the scene....and dimmed the lights on what is now classic rock.

Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio this past May...it was my first concert, but it was amazing!! Got wristbands for the field...Tons of great bands were there - Breaking Benjamin, Buckcherry, Three Days Grace, Chevelle, Hinder, Evanesence, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Black Stone Cherry, and then they ended the night with an awesome performance by ZZ Top - and it happened that it was Dusty's birthday that day too! And we got autographs from Ben (Breaking Benjamin), and then from Adam and the drummer from Three Days Grace.

My chemical romance was an awesome concert, they are amzing in concert, they had all this falling glitter at the end of welcome to the black parade and they had fire and some fireworks, the whole show was great and they all play like they are giving it everything they can.
Also i went to the taste of chaos and that wicked fun i got a bunch of autographs and i got to shake jared letos hand ahhhh it was awesome. I also got to meet aiden.

Those were the two best concerts ive been too, im looking foward to the warped tour and projekt revolution this summer. But yeahh... if you ever get a chance, see MCR because it really is an amazing experience.

I would have to say every Dead show from 1978 to 1995 that I ever went to.

But the BEST of those 100+ shows had to be Saratoga Springs, NY 1983. It was just one of the best trips, and the best times ever. Beautiful rolling green, and Jerry was in top form.

I had a blast that time- but honestly I just wish The Dead were back - and Jerry were still alive, cause those years were the best years!
