I raise ducks, and within 2 months, the duckling will be completely feathered out. My ducks walk free in the yard and won't go into shelter, even in the winter. I live about 100 miles north of Grand Rapids, Michigan, near Lake Michigan, and we get colder weather here then you.

Make sure that the duck can go into a dog house in the winter. They love company to flock with, so can you get it another duck for his friend?

By the time the snow comes to Chicago, the baby duck won't be a baby any more. Presuming this is a wild duck, it's illegal for you to have it in your posession. You need to get it to a wildlife rehab center so that it can be properly raised and released when it's ready. You should be able to find the name of a rehab center by using the link below.

Well if your going to take care of it yourself be sure to educate yourself about all that however. I would strongly recommend that once it gets old enough you let it go in a local pond or lake so that way it will fly south on its own. The duck will then return every year to have its young to around that area. If your worried about it flying and stuff usually they learn that all by themselves. A great way to keep them strong is to let it swim in your tub. They also love grubs and night crawlers best of luck.

We have 4 ducks and they are fine in the winter. I'm in PA, so we get alot a snow too. We just put them in their pen and give them extra hay

Keep it inside, somewhere warm, and if you don't want it walking around everywhere and leaving little presents, put it in a box when you are not attending it. Make the box comfortable by putting a small blanket or something inside it.

They are wild animals that normally live the winters out. Why don't you either leave it alone or call a animal control group?
