I found out I was pregnant when I was supposed to have the procedure, so we postponed it. I had a miscarriage anyway. But yes, it typically is standard protocol to ask if someone could be pregnant before performing most medical procedures, and you may have even signed a consent form with that question on it. Were you on birth control, or trying to get pregnant?

I am sorry for your loss, and hope you can come to terms with the fact that nothing can bring that child back. I have learned through my life's experiences that things really do happen for a reason, even though they can be very painful to go through.
Good Luck to you.

I don't know of any physician who doesn't check a pregnancy test before doing cryosurgery. I don't think that there is any law which guides this. However, good and competent care was not exercised by your provider and if they didn't check a pregnancy test on you, they're not likely doing it for others. Do you have a follow up appt. with the physician who did the cryo? If so, I think you should clarify what their office procedure normally is and request an explanation. Moreover, if you had this done in an outpatient surgery setting or a hospital, they should also be requiring a negative pregnancy test prior to doing the procedure. I am so sorry for what you're experiencing and hope that you can, at the very least, get some answers. In the future, you may want to consider pursuing care elsewhere.

Hiya Julie,

I was due a smear Jan 05 and I fell pregnant in the Dec, and they said they wouldn't even do the smear never mind treatment.
I had a colposcopy in Feb this year and they asked me if I was pregnant and offered to do a test. They actually asked for a urine sample so not sure if they did a test.

No-one will know if the treatment caused the miscarriage, but I'd look into contacting the hospital just to ask. They may be able to explain.

I'm sorry for your loss
xxxx

I had the same thing happen to me!!! I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was about 6 weeks pregnant. They never asked me if I could be pregnant or did a test to see if I could be. I had a hard time because when I was in the hospital losing my baby my friend was giving birth to hers!
