Hmm, well there's a couple. One is putting aside romantic feelings (this has occurred in some instances on my side, in others on the friend's side - both are tricky to work through). The other, though I've always been one to keep a confidence, is to do just that (at least, where the secret involves me or people close to me). I unfortunately have a need to talk things through when they worry me, and where there's a confidence my ability to talk it through with someone other than that person is hampered. I hope all that makes sense.

you probably did the main staggering element, because of the fact friendship with somebody and loving somebody are too diverse ranges/kinds of emotional ties. Switching over from one style to the different is a brilliant step.you could not substitute or switchover those easily, except you're emotionally good or inert. it constantly potential dropping a pal once you start up loving her, and vice versa. i'm hoping you get what I recommend.

Prying a large, very black cockroach loose from a friend's hair. I have acute "roach-a-phobia" (sorry, don't know what the formal name for that particular phobia)

It was a horrifying experience for me, because I am truly, utterly and irrevocably terrified of those creepy crawly smelly things. But my friend was screaming herself senseless, and I couldn't just runaway and leave her. There was no one else.

So I just had to try and do it.

Silly, all this, you might think. But I guess personal phobia is not always a rational thing....

Stood by while I watched a friend do something I knew was a mistake, and that I could not stop them from doing it.

I was there to help pick up the pieces.

My best friend's wife hated me. She told me it was because she felt that he could tell me things he couldn't tell her. She insisted he not hang around me anymore or talk to me anymore. He would try and hangout behind her back but she would always find out and get pissed. So I told him to forget it and to go with his wife and live his life. Its been 10yrs since ive seen him. It was difficult because we were childhood friends.

Good question, makes one think...perhaps the hardest part for me is to back off enough to allow the other person room enough to be them selves without being overbearing.
