Are the politicians in power pitting us against each other in order to further their own agendas. Republicans tell us that their plan is the only plan under which America can be great and that Democrats are evil and bent on destroying America, and of course the Democrats will tell you the opposite is true, their plan is the only plan for a better America. Are we not Americans? Can we not hop off the partisan merry-go-round that is taking us nowhere fast and agree on one thing, that government is not the solution, it is the problem? What is stopping us from uniting as a people and working to make our country better?

The Republicans are scrambling trying to save face in the "this is not another vietnam" war they have us stuck in and for the stupid decisions made by the administration. Their best position is the one they won't use, the information that Osama was planning an attack and that Iraq had WMDs came from the intelligence of Clinton.

The Democrats are vulnerable. By the time the election comes, the senate will be lead by the dems for two years. And what have they done? If they stay true to form, they will be as lame duck as the president.

The best position to be in right now is an independant with no ties to an agenda. Come out with your own stance on the issues, speak your mind about the war and let the others cut themselves to shreds trying to lay blame on each other.

It's called "divide and conquer," and it's the oldest trick in the book. Well, maybe not the oldest, but pretty old. The British controlled all of India for roughly 100 years, using only 1000 administrators, by pitting the various ethnic and linguistic groups against one another. Until Gandhi wised them up. How long would Gandhi last in modern-day America? It's a bad situation, and probably worse than we know. So yes, we've been tricked.

Against us and each other. The whole goal it seems to me is to have a majority so you can further your and all your cronies agendas, which is basically the same in either party, money. Almost everything politicians touch turns to crap, except their bank accounts. Both parties are corrupt and both parties are only out for themselves. This immigration bill is a perfect example, both parties gain, Americans lose. We cannot control what these people do once elected and it seems very few have the integrity to represent the people who elected them. I say vote out all incumbents every election don't give them a chance to become career politicians in Washington where they can do the most damage to us and our country.

Thoughtful question. I don't know how much of this is a conscious effort on the part of the the two parties.

I do find it telling that 1 percent of the population controls 40 percent of the wealth. To me, this seems immoral. This is what we should be looking at, don't you think, since most of us are in the other 99 percent?

I just finished saying this on another post, but I feel we all need to get more involved in our communities and take our country back from the grassroots level, upward. What do others think?

It is one thing to further your own agenda as most politicians do. It is quite another to rampantly break laws and force your ideas down the throat of the public, no matter how immoral, illegal or idiotic. Bush has smirked and told us he will stay in Iraq even if no one but his wife and his dog agree with him. Is this the stance of a world leader? I think not. It is the stance of an ego manic who has lied and cheated all of his life and been rewarded for it.

The real problem is that the very wealthy people who buy access to government are the same very wealthy people who have access to mass media,

You are of course right, but the Revolution will truly not be televised. That doesn't mean that a lot of people won't be watching TV while it's going on.....

Yeah, you've got the point.

We call this situation "razvodka" (разводка). It's when 2 sides of the same machine each push you against another to make a visiblity of a "free choice".

In fact, you vote for the same evil.
If you do, the crooks call you "loch" (лох).

Just read between the lines.

It is not about the person, It's also not about the party and not about the will of the people. It's about money and power. That is the truth. Without vast sums of money and power the people will never prevail. Not in my lifetime anyway.

You couldn't get 5 people to agree to the color of an apple.
Let alone get all five to get up and get one. Americans by nature it seems are either to lazy or in to big of a hurry to do anything but what is self gratifying to themselves.
