What health, safety, or consumer protection function of the U.S. gov is in greatest need of improvement?

This is for a US government paper. I'm not looking for the paper, I just want to see what other people think the most important "fix" is. I plan to research and cover multiple functions; I'm just looking for some help picking the best ones to focus on. Thanks!

The FDA has been striped of many people and is way understaffed, also Bush has had several of his yes people in charge who have no knowledge of what the $%^& they are doing.

And the recall staff. A very important section of the FDA is recalling things that turn out unsafe, or fake medican etc. The are so under staffed unless it a huge problem it's being swept under the rug. Try there for a place to write about.

Tort reform. Frivolous and stupid lawsuits are clogging the courts and wasting billions upon billions of dollars, all money that U.S. consumers pay in the form of higher costs of products and services. Not to mention the millions spend on all this court time by our government.

Of course we should have the right to sue, and every American should have access to remedy, but lawsuits are out of control and I'm tired of people looking to sue their way to easy street.

Dept of Education, abolish the Teachers unions.

over all inspections, foods, gas electric,hospitals doctors, loan sharks Visa's and those guys, they all should be inspected, why go after the little guy when they have it in the old racketeering games.
