I think I need to delete XP and re format the HDD. I have the OEM disc and pass code. Do I do it by going in to a CMD window and deleting *.* or re format through the BIOS ( ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard)..... or what?

When you re install and the system asks for the administrator password, which one would it be? I had turned off the windows login password and I have never set up a password on the security function of the MB but it still asked for admin password.

Need help!.....from somebody who knows what they are doing.

SAVE all your important data to another unused HDD, (NOT the one that the fresh installation will be going on!),.. and put in your CD with Windows XP on into your DVD/CD drive,... boot the machine up, then as the machine loads it'll ask you if you want to boot by CD, press enter *or any key sometimes,.. and it'll start to boot up with the new files,.. to find out the right steps to do this, go to this website: http://www.amherst.edu/it/software/xp/install/index.html

If you have the original disc, you put the CD in the drive and simply reboot. Watch closely as the system reboots from the beginning. You should get a message on the screen when it first boots saying something like "Press any key to boot from CD" which you would do of course. From here, you walk through the setup wizard to reformat the drive and reinstall windows. Don't forget to any save any important files from you computer befor eyou do this because absolutely everything you see right now will be GONE. Only some of your operating system will be there when the reinstall completes. No documents, no newly installed programs. Just an FYI.....

If you have the XP disk, you have to boot from that disk, so put the disk in the CD drive and then turn the computer off and then turn the computer back on. You should see a message on the screen that says "boot from CD rom...press any key". So when you see that then press something. If it doesn't boot, then you have to go into the CMOS settings and set the boot order to boot from CD first. Once you get it booted up with the CD rom you have to follow the instructions. DON'T choose to "repair" windows. This will ask you for an administrator's password. Choose the option that says setup windows. If you follow the prompts it will have an option to format the drive.

you should be able to put the CD in your drive and shut down the PC and start back up with the cd in, if your system is set up to boot from CD. if not the go into the BIOS and set it to boot from CD first.
