Do I still have to pay the rent. Knowing that the money is not paying the mortgage?

My lease expires this month. My rent is is not being paid directly to the landlord. It is being paid through a property management company. An eviction will scar my chances of renting another place. I don't think it's right that money I'm paying for rent, is not being used to pay the mortgage.

Yes, you still have to pay rent or give a 30 day notice that you will be moving out unless you have a lease.

Actually, the lease you signed is between you and the owners, and doesn't apply to the lienholder (the mortgage company, bank etc). If the property is indeed foreclosed upon, I would contact the lienholder to see if they're willing to negotiate a new lease with you (your lease terminates when the property is foreclosed upon). I would try to find out if the property has been scheduled for foreclosure through your local county clerk who records Notices of Foreclosure. These Notices are posted monthly. I would continue to pay the owner the rent until such time you find the property has been posted for foreclosure. If you find out that it has been, immediately stop paying rent to the owner. Owners of properties cannot just throw you out if you have a signed lease - they have to go thru the eviction process, which could take a few months - giving you an opportunity to secure other housing. Just as a side note, if you think the owners are not responsible in paying the mortgage, I would strongly suggest that you stop paying rent, and find a more secure housing situtation. You may also want to check with your local state bar and consult with an attorney as to tenant's rights.

You are in for some bad news
Lady I work with was doing what you do and she was the victim in an eviction. And all here items are now locked in the house that she cannot even enter.

it does not matter what your money goes for. you are paying to occupy somebody's property. that said, just stop paying. the eviction process takes a long time. by then, you should have enough money for a nice place.
