The mistake is changing sq rt (1/-1) to sq rt (-1/1) because it's really 1/i that you changed to i/1 which is not the same thing.

The mistake is in step (3),
The +/- sign should apply to both the numerator and denominator of the term, making it a plus of minus 1 on the top (numerator).

Statement 2 is incorrect. i is defined as the positive sqrt of -1.

i=+sqrt(-1)
-i=-sqrt(-1)

i is not equal to +-sqrt(-1).

There's the first mistake in the proof.

square of (-1) is 1 and square of (1) is 1. so... how can i-squared be -1?

in part 2 there is no proof that i = +/- i.

It is true that i=+i, but there is no proof that i= -i
