I think it's fantastic you're learning how to crochet! I like to recommend the Crochet Guild of America's website for it's chart on Turning Chains. It does offer "how to" drawings, so do check it out: http://www.crochet.org
The Craft Yarn Council of America also has a great "learning" online tutorial ... it's called "Each One Teach Two" and has the material so you can easily print it out. You can check it out at http://www.eachoneteachtwo.com
Realizing some people are more visual and need to see the stitch making in "action" I recommend visiting the annies attic website at http://www.anniesattic.com as they have free video clips ranging about 15 seconds long that you can play & replay on your PC.
Finally, I'd like to suggest joining an online group for moral support. Yahoo has many great crochet groups and I'm sure you'll find one (or more!) that you will enjoy! :)
I hope this helps,

I do both, and I think both are easy. I learned to knit English style when I was 7 and learned to crochet at age 10. Some years later, I switched knitting style to Continental because it involves the same motions as crochet, and I think most crocheters will have an easier time learning to knit the continental method. Pros of crochet: 1. Faster than knitting 2. Produces a firmer/thicker fabric than knitting using the same yarn 3. Can produce a greater variety of lacy stitches 4. Makes great looking edgings and Cons: 1. Uses more yarn to cover the same number of square inches 2. Less supple and flexible than knitting 3. The stitches are more crude looking in expanses of "plain" stitching (row after row of sc or dc vs stockinette stitch). 4. The mere *thought* of a crocheted sock is a turn-off Pros of Knitting: 1. An endless variety of fabric can be created 2. Uses less yarn for the same coverage than crochet 3. Produces flexible, supple fabric 4. Less likely to make errors; errors easier to find and fix 5. I find knitting more relaxing than crocheting (that may be just me)

People have already given you great suggestions so I am going to just mention that meetup.com has ways to meet people locally who teach each other how to crochet. It is pretty cool, we usually meet at a cafe or something. Really low key, but fun. If you don't have one near you, you can always begin one & hope it grows. Crocheting is completely addictive! To keep my addiction going, I make blankets for friend's children who buy the yarn for me. Keeps me doing what I love & keeps me from the poor house. :) Once you get the basics down, it is quite a simple craft.
There is also a fabulous book called Teach Yourself Visually Crocheting. I have found this book the most helpful of all the books I was using to learn. My friend & I use it & work together to figure out what things mean. It is always easier to learn when working w/ others.
Have fun!

Lionbrand.com
is a great website
It also gives you patterens to follow and it teaches you to knit too, if you want to learn.
http://www.roxycraft.com/learntocrochet.htm
this is also a good website
Hope this helps! If this doesnt help then all you need to do is search Learn to crochet or crochet. You could probably find some stuff on wikihow.com.
Good luck!

I like www.learntoknit.com it shows how to knit and crochet, and what the difference is. It has a few links to free patterns. Also, crochet.about.com they have good instructions for different stitches and lots of patterns and charts.
