Hi all, I don't think this is the right forum for this but I don't know where else to ask this.

I am making an independent documentary and I need some footage of the first monkey or the first dog sent to space. It's not important if it is copyrighted or not. So does anyone here know in which documentary, in which TV program I would be able to find such footage? I know that exists because I saw a documentary with a "Russian space monkey" a year or two ago but i don't remember the tittle of the documentary. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if you know in which forum this question would be better asked please let me know.

Cheers,
PepeLapiu :)

The soviets did launch dogs and monkeys into space before they sent humans. Laika the dog they didn´t even bother to bring back to earth. The poor pooch suffocated in space.

The US also launched animal astronauts. One of them was Ham the chimp in 1961.

On November 3, 1957, the U.S.S.R. stunned the world with a space sensation -- the launch of Sputnik 2 with a live dog on-board. But many details of what happened to the mission have only recently been revealed. The Space Age had started less than a month before, with the launch of the first Soviet satellite on October 4, 1957. Sputnik 1, a 40-pound sphere, carried a simple transmitter and was considered very heavy compared to the U.S. spacecraft under development at the time. Enter Sputnik 2. The Soviet press boasted about the 250-pound object equipped with a cabin, providing all the necessary life support for a dog named Laika. Well, almost. The Soviets admitted soon after the launch that the spacecraft would not return, meaning that the animal was doomed from the start. Years after Sputnik 2 burned up in the atmosphere, conflicting scenarios of Laika's death were circulating in the West.

I beleive it was on the discovery channel and it was a program dealing with the Russian space program. I know they had the dog Leika but I'm not sure if they had the monkey in it.
