I'm very active throughout the day and at times when i'm on my menses, I often have a tampon on for a lenghty amount of time.. Is this safe or can this cause any type of health risks.. infections and so on?

And is it safe to wear a tampon to bed, granted that you get up and change throughout the night?

Thank you for your answers.

Toxic Shock Syndrome

Bacteria can grow in large amounts. Bacteria is heavy in the vagina to begin with, but regular secretions flush it all out. Tampons hold bacteria very well. This can be a problem, and this is called Toxic Shock Syndrome when the bacteria poison the woman because the levels are so high.

I'd recommend, as a biologist, not a doctor, that tampon use should be as sparingly as possible. The longer you leave it in the vagina, the more likely bacteria will proliferate in large numbers. I would err on the side of caution and NOT go to bed with a tampon in. An infection in the vagina can't be a fun experience.

In addition to the issue of Toxic Shock Syndrome there is the risk of other kinds of infections as well.

I would not recommend wearing a tampon to bed because of the fact that the tampon blocks the flow's ability to move during the night. A pad is better for at night.

Please also check with your dr to see what they say.

If i actually believed what you're saying, according to hazard i could have the respond you're claiming to be finding for. however......I accidently placed a small 9 volt battery interior the woodstove with Christmas wrapping paper various years in the past. no longer in undemanding terms did the battery no longer explode, yet whilst it did get warm it began leaking and we immediatly had to evacuate the domicile, which comprise pets because it full of poisonous smoke. It took an hour after the hearth went out until now we could come back in. It replaced into snowing outdoors, and nevertheless, there replaced into NO way we could have stayed interior the domicile. Plus, in case you have been to place nail polish remover on tampons for the 5 minutes you claimed, it would not be attainable to place them back interior the wrapper, as they could have swelled!!! So, according to hazard you would be a author some day, who's nicely-known with of. yet suitable now....you're in undemanding terms a LIAR!!!!

you dont need to change a tampon every 2 hours, they can be left in for up to6 usually unless your flow is ver heavy. it is safe to wear them to sleep as long as you dont leave them in for too long. keeping them in longer can leave you at risk for TSS but keep in mind TSS is very rare. less then 500 cases are reported every year in North America. if you start to feel dizzy, get feverish, vomit, or feel nauseous, remove your tampon and see a doc right away.

tampons need to be changed every two hours. Women that have left them in have DIED from toxic shock syndrome. Don't be stupid, take the time to change the tampon.
