One must go out the door he came in...no,that's already taken,but I'm sure that since so many people are gripped with fear and obsessive compulsion you can find someone to accept your superstition. Many people refuse to test any assumption they or others make.Of course,for many people a superstion is just something they choose to label as such-some thing that they choose not to believe in

Look at the "formulae" of traditional/successful superstition, and you'll find none have any name of their real creators. So it won't bring you fame (unless of course you are writing a P.H.D. on the development of superstition)
Ones based on sleeping with hands under/over bed covers can get very annoying/ingrained for people who don't know the answer immediately.
Superstition mainly uses word of mouth (or word of finger ie typing), and is so it very difficult to control what it will morph into. Looking into how memes purported to work might give an insight into which ideas are likely to survives and which likely die out.
It's much easier to create a false history for "traditional activities". Dwyle Flonking is rumoured to be a case in point. (Does it REALLY mater to anyone other than academics, it's fun to play/watch!)
Before thinking of starting a superstition check to make sure that it doesn't already exist. It's amazing what's out there.
When was the last time you hesitated to walk under ladders/scaffolding, for even the tiniest moment? Maybe you avoided the ladder, or even deliberately walked under. Doesn't matter what the reasoning (don't want builders rubble on head? or because its only superstition) You noticed the superstition, and based your action on it.
