Nope, not a good idea. Land plants will die once submersed in water any length of time.

If you have a lot of time, you could experiment. Get a bucket of water, get a land plant, put it in the bucket and add some water fertilizer (Tetra's "Flora Pride"). Wait for like, a month and if it is still alive, it's worth a try. Make sure the bucket is in the sun too. You could have as many buckets going as you want until you find something that works. If it does live, that plant will already be clean enough for your fish. (use the fertilizer as the bottle's directions say). If you do find any that work, I would really like to know about it. I would not suggest it. Plants outside have chemicals on them that can kill your fish. They have special plants at the pet store that are for fish tanks, and usually are pretty cheap.

you can put plants like spider plants in the top of the tank but most outside plants will die once in water...or try one of these that will grow in water

I think it would bring bacteria and other organisms into you tank. You better buy some at a store, they are no too costly, but definitely safe.
