Just for fun, I'm making a bow and arrow and I already have the instructions, only they don't say the absolute best wood to use and how thick it needs to be before cutting/shaving it.
I need some help!

The English Yew is very good. You can also use Ash, Beech, or other hardwood that is flexible. Oak, Walnut, Maple, etc. doen't have enough give to make a good bow.

For arrows, use Ash, Maple, or other hardwood.

There are bow and arrow clubs who will give the best info. I just attended one in Santa Barbara and they all make their own bows.

A club called KRU will be happy to help you. It is a Yahoo Club called "knappers R us". Knappers make arrows for bows.
