No, try breaking them in half or chew tums instead which also has calcium in it.

Depends what pills they are as some are coated so that they will dissolve when they get to the right level in your digestive tract, some don't work with diary products. Try putting them in some processed cheese and chew lightly before swallowing.... that's what i have to do to get my dog to take pills! Tip: Put the pill in your mouth on the middle of your tongue, take a sip of water with a STRAW and swallow. The tongue deals with the pill for you automatically.

There is a Calcium supplement that is not in pill form you drink it, and you'd recieve much more absorption from taking it. Most Calcium supplements have high amounts of Calcium in them (1000mg), but your body does not absorb it. In other words you are taking the right about of Calcium but it is passing right through your system because the bioavailability of most pills/tablets is about 30-40%. There is a brand called Isotonix, which have supplements already in an isotonic state, all you do is just add water and drink. Isotonic simply means the same pressure. To put it in plain terms if you have Isotonix Calcium as opposed to the Calcium Supplement you’re taking now, you will get about 95% of what’s on the label as opposed to the 30-40% you’re having now. For example the supplement you take now probably has 1000mg of Calcium in it so when you take the pill you get about 300-400mg of Calcium. If you take Isotonix Calcium which has 750mg of Calcium your body would absorb about 710mg of Calcium, in other words you get more.
Did you know there is more than one type of calcium; in fact there are five, Carbonate, Lactate, Phosphate, Sulfate, and Citrate. Vitamin D helps aid the body to absorb Calcium. Most Calcium Supplements only have one and top of that they don’t have Vitamin D in them, so even less it absorbed. Isotonix Calcium has all 5 with vitamin D, and surprisinly enough the FDA actually aproved it. For those of who say, well I drink a lot of milk I get all the Calcium I need, you’re wrong. Here’s a fact, if the processed Milk they advertise to us today is so high in Calcium and America has the highest intake of dairy products in the world, then why do we have the highest percentage of osteoperosis?
The Isotonix Calcium Supplement can be found here

Taste chalky, I would think. Still it shouldn't hurt to take them that way. Normally pills are swallowed whole because of the taste they leave in your mouth if they're chewed.

It depends on the brand you are taking and also the way it's designed.
I would recommend checking with your pharmacist to see what they say.
