How many of you go on a regular basis to abortion clinics and speak with these women who are considering abortion? I mean calmly speak, too, not screaming and throwing signs in their faces. How many of you have ever counseled these women, prayed with them, told them they have other options? How many of you have offered to help them with pre-natal care and finding an adoptive home? How many of you realize that laws will not stop abortions? Laws haven't stopped drugs now have they?

I am not for abortion, but I am against it being outlawed. If it were illegal, there would still be abortions, but they would be performed in basements with household objects, likely resulting in two deaths instead of one.

This is not a liberal/conservative issue. There are pro-lifers on both sides. It's been my experience that the pro-life movement is full of hypocrites, that's the purpose of this question.

Every movement is full of hypocrites.

But most churches are pro-life and churches are frequently active in supporting homes for unwed mothers. Many adoption agencies are Christian based.

So, while there are surely some hypocrites in their midst (as there are many hypocrites in the environmental movement), many "pro-lifers" are putting their money where there mouth is & trying to help the mothers.

Many pro life advocates donate to organizations that help mothers give up children for adoption or encourage this over abortion. The media presentation of the "pro life" movement does not show this at all, but merely shows the signing waiving extremist that oppose abortion violently. Which is sad.

Wow...I don't even know where to begin...can you name a single organization that is NOT pro-life that actively tries to help the Mother avoid abortion? Not the adoption for profit places but real help? Who do you think supports these places? and yes, I have very close ties to helping end abortion and giving the mother options INCLUDING keeping her baby and having a better life...DO you have any idea how many organizations are out there that give grants for the mother to go to college (the grants also include child care and living expenses) Welfare and abortion are the worst examples of helping a desperate mother.

From 1973 through 2002, more than 42 million legal abortions occurred. 42,000,000.

Proponents of abortion talk about the "reproductive right" of the mother. This is a legal fallacy, and Roe v. Wade an unfortunate mistake.

Since when does our society condone the killing of an innocent? Answer: it does not, and cannot. The reproductive right of a woman can involve contraception, sure - - but once a child is conceived, how can anyone morally justify killing it?

Answer: We play semantics - we don't call it a baby. We call it a fetus. We convince ourself life does not exist at that point. We define the issue in terms of a "woman's right," while ignoring the child's life. And we feel good- who can be against a "right"?

Why do women have abortions? On average, women give four reasons for choosing abortion. Three-fourths of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals; three-fourths say they cannot afford a child; three-fourths say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or the ability to care for dependents; and half say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner.

These are good reasons for "legally" killing 42,000,000 children?

Calling pro-life people hypocritical does nothing to change this tragic slaughter.

well as far as overturning abortion and where "back alley abortions" are concerned... If a woman is so desperate to break the law to kill her child then she deserves to die as well.
If a person breaks the law and becomes a drug addict is there not a risk of death there as well.
Now for the other part about speaking with women about the issues. I have NEVER protested at a clinic, but I have been down this road before with others. There is always another option than abortion. Typically abortion is a way to react, not act.
Most women who have abortions hate themselves later on, and those who think about it and don't do it, are much happier about that decision in the end.

I don't think you'll find that many volunteers and givers like to toot their own horns.

I give regularly to an operation called AAA Women's Services, which in my town operates in a former abortion clinic. A full range of services, from counseling to adoption information is provided. The main thing is that women who come to them are treated with love and understanding. Something they are sorely lacking when they come in.

I do not often speak of what I would like to see the law become, because I favor an end to abortion on demand as a birth control choice, and I could really care less if punitive measures are implemented in achieving that goal. I just want our society to become a society that cares about children, and stops seeing our future as a "burden."

I'm pro-choice.

Pro-life people don't owe the mothers.

Anyone stupid enough to ignore years of education warning them, preparing them to actually make something of their life before having children, before having sex, has chosen.

No one owed them. It's not like a natural disaster no one can predict. It's more like someone warned that if they play on the freeway they could get hit.

They want their fun, and sometimes they get hit, no matter how fast they jump.

No one owes them.

Me, I would give everyone the legal choice to have an abortion combined with a temporary block on their fertility if they make the taxpayers pay for it.

The block stays until they make something of their lives other than babies they're just going to destroy, exceptions being rape victims and similar situations. Those educated and who pay their own way can do as they choose.

I was impressed by Mike Huckabee's comment on 'The Daily Show' ....

He said (paraphrasing) that "life begins at conception but it doesn't end at birth" ... meaning a pro-life person also has to think about how that child will be raised and educated and live the life.

Not me. Getting pregnant is their problem, not mine. I would never protest at an abortion clinic either.

You make excuses on this one. The problem with unwanted pregnancies is women having sex before they are ready to have kids. Solve that problem and the rest go away.

The real issue is liberals want people to do what they want, when they want, without consequences.

Probably not many, unless they are trying to find one to adopt. The same people who are "pro-life" are also in the same group that want to throw them off of welfare and do away with programs like WIC and Medicare.
