The reason the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is that the rich value education more. I come from a middle class family and I see this all the time. Those in the upper and middle classes value education far more than the poor. They demand more out of their children when it comes to academic performance. I see this with my friends from middle and upper class backgrounds. Those from lower class backgrounds often do not have the pressure from their parents to perform as well.

Simply this can be summarized as those with a higher level of education/income set the bar higher for their children. Now there are overachievers and underachievers in every group, but this is a general observation on society as a whole.

Most of the millionaires (who exist all over the world, not just in the USA) worked hard all their lives to get where they are. They started from square one with a good idea, and spent their lives making it grow into a success. How can you imply they they didn't work? They are also ambitious, determined, creative, driven and goal-oriented. Anyone can become rich with the right opportunities and drive. Some do get rich by luck and circumstance, and some inherit fortunes, but that's life.

Sounds like you have a little class envy going on there.

Well Marty a chip on your shoulder like that ain't gonna help you none. Keep in mind it is all about perspective. First of all, most of the billionaires and millionaires you hear about often are people who have worked hard all their lives. Some of them came from nothing too (like the Starbucks guy). Sure some of them were born into money and live a life of leisure and what not. But you know everyone is lacking something. An no one gets what's missing by bemoaning it in others. Why don't you get out there and work hard for something. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of the big guys. And, we all will hate you ;-).

The rich get richer because the rich have power, something poor people don't have. If all the poor people in this nation would unite, it could form a powerful coalition that would demand better working conditions, more pay, more benefits, and more social, political and economic equality. But the poor don't have enough self-esteem to believe they could actually make that happen....so it doesn't happen. Meanwhile, the rich continue to make their grab for more money and more power, thanks to tax incentives, corporate welfare, Social Security payments they don't need or deserve, and government hand-outs to which the poor have no access.
The rich, therefore, get richer while millions of hard-working poor people in America continue to go to bed hungry. All because the 'rich' are too keen on the idea of sharing the wealth. A wealthy business owner will balk at paying an employee $6.00 an hour, claiming it will force him to go bankrupt; but he thinks nothing of taking millions of dollars out of his business just for his own personal avarice and gluttony. While he dines of lobster and champagne, his employees eat Hamburger Helper. And he claims it's all because he's worked hard 'to get where he's at' - when in fact he's 'where's he at' because he has often sucked the sweat of the brows of his hard-working employees. -RKO- 06/16/07

Because some of the rich are greedy selfish bastards that spawn the likes of Paris Hilton. While some of the poor want the government to pay for them and their 12 babies. Meanwhile the 80% of us who work for a living get bent over and screwed by both parties. Dems catering to the poor and Repubs to the rich.

The poor are getting richer over time. Most of this has to do with technology as well as better methods of production. A US family in poverty today is a lot wealthier then a poor family from 1980 or even a middle class family from 1920.

Have you ever heard of the saying? Work smarter not harder. Many of these millionaires has worked very hard, got a good education, made good business decisions, investments, etc. These are the same people that don't have 7 kids, spend their money getting drunk, smoking, etc. They make good decisions and mostly have a good education. Class envy is not right. Working hard does not mean you are owed a big paycheck. Find a better paying career.

Because of sayings like that. Poor people think they can never get rich so they don't try to excel, even if they might be working hard, it's usually at a job that doesn't provide well. Poor people in that situation need to work hard in the right position. Rich people are already rich so they think they can make more money, and they expand their opportunities with smart decisions. It's all in the state of mind, in my opinion.

You really need a lesson in reality, but sadly you probably won't hear it. Nearly 1/2 of this great nation pays nothing for our government - not a dime. The other half - including those millionares pay it all. Back up your "facts" with the idea the rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer and remember that figures ly and liars usually figure.

You can blame it on a couple things, I guess. One might be that the government does little to nothing to really help the poor, or regulate the rich. Another possibility is the economics, similar in concept to the idea of what is called illegal immigrants. The poor except lower wages then anyone else may, and thus their employers could exploit them to lose little money in hiring and gaining more and more money for themselves..
