Does anyone know which road the characters are following? I'm assuming it's set in the USA somewhere.

I agree on the setting being in the US, but I'm not sure that there is an identifiable road. i think that the details were intentionally vague so that the reader would concentrate on the relationship between the child and father instead of the setting. This book really made me think. I hope that you enjoy it.

If I was guessing, I'd say route 66 - simply as it's the most famous American road, but I don't think it's supposed to be literal road. There are few geographic qualifiers, and I'm not sure it really matters, but it is certainly in the US.

I assumed it was set in the USA .. i read it a few months back my recollection is that they were heading towards the coast and i am fairly sure they were heading west
